Then I'm not a fan of this move unless he's a starter. Lots of transfers in December that probably could have helped the program for 2-3 years. Instead we settle for a D-3 (Grinnell) kid that walked on at Syracuse? I can't speak to Andre Rafus , but I think the Bayer signing is strong evidence that Jamion and staff believe that they can get a better player from the class of 2019 then they could get from what is left of the class of 2018. I heard that they didn't think Jordan Dinsmore was good enough.

He was on scholarship at the Cuse this past year. yes he was and Boeheim made it clear no guarantee he would get a ship this year- so he would have been taking a chance of no ride-- he already has his degree so little upside in staying at Cuse without guarantee of ship when he had a few schools willing to give him a free ride Not sure he wasn't going to have a scholarship this year. Per Poughkeepsie Journal article from Jan 2018, he was given it for 2 years to include the upcoming season. (In fact, it was "backdated" so that they gave him his Fall 2017 money back.) That said, he wanted to contribute and it was doubtful he would have the opportunity at the Cuse. www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/sports/2018/01/05/dutchess-bayer-basketball-dream/1005940001/

Siena gets a mature shooter who has seen College Basketball at it's highest level and commits to 1 year. Bayer gets an opportunity to contribute to a D1 program while continuing his education. Low risk move on Siena's part.

And I also said I never saw a kid in this program improve more after one year than him. He seemed to take to Jimmys coaching more than he did to Mitch's. Ps-this kid only has one year here to figure it out. You got him as a star, noted.

It's funny how people have different opinions of players. There was not much to gauge Brett on in his 1st year because Mitch hardly ever played him but what I do remember is he hustled like heck, always diving for loose balls on the floor and our group of 4 always commented during the season about why he never had any run.Mitch was a terrible Head Coach,to say the least.GO SAINTS!!

HJ Brett was not a D2 player his freshman year. He was a freshman. Different kids mature at different times and so putting ceilings on 17 year olds is silly. I have no clue what we will get from Bayer but i do know that this kid has been betting on himself and winning for a while now. I will let him play some rather than waiting for some one who might be available this December but can't help us until 2019. IMHO

And you're a guy that doesn't have the balls to evaluate any player good, or bad, so you ll never be wrong. Stick your neck out and give the board a real opinion. A real evaluation. Take a chance. I know you won't. You'd rather hold onto things said 5 years ago, and twist then to try to make me look I missed on Brett. I didn't. He stunk his first year year. So what. I gave him lots of credit his sophomore year, but that wasn't allowed right? Lol You're a coward and a kiss ass. Afraid to say anything negative about any kid in green and gold. Trust me, YOU'RE the phony. Ps- I already said I've know nothing about him, EXCEPT he played D-3 basketball and walked on at Syracuse. I'm sure that impresses you. Sorry, but it doesn't impress me.

WOW! A lot of people are in mid-season form. I think we're all used to having it be "dead" time by now due to JP and his crew's lack of activity in the past. I for one will have a hard time getting too mad about anyone or anything. I am so ecstatic about our new young coaches that nothing else is important. We all know that you can sometimes do everything right but it just doesn't work out. Let's give our new staff a little latitude. They're not going to get it right all the time, everyone knows that recruiting in college is never a sure thing. No one can guarantee success but my money is riding on JC and his staff. I don't know how many wins we are going to have next season but I think things are going to be done the right way and we are going to love where we are at this time next year. Go Saints!

First time in 8 LONG years that I am actually optimistic about the program’s direction/future. So far I’ve seen a major culture shift, professionalism and energy.

I didn't attack him. He attacked me, so yeah I responded. Sorry if I'm not excited about a D-3 player, that walked on at Syracuse, is taking up our last scholarship on a team severely lacking talent. I really hope no great players inquire about transferring at Christmas, and we have no scholarships. I'm not blaming JC for this class. He got the job late. Everyone understands he gets a pass this year.

I was looking forward to the upcoming season now I have to make the drive from Saratoga all winter to watch a team that is severely lacking talent . . . Ugh! . . . no wonder KK went into hiding

Everyone understands he gets a pass this year. I think it's completely fair to value the opportunity of taking a mid-season transfer over the value of taking the perceived risk of a grad transfer with little actual D1 in-game experience. With that said, I'd disagree. I personally think the value of bringing in Siena's first ever grad transfer, which announces to the college hoops world that this now possible at the advertising cost of one scholarship year, outweighs leaving the spot vacant in the hopes that a mid-season transfer emerges, regardless of the on-court impact Bayer has. The amount of mid-season transfers that are available most years is not that robust of a list anyways (a list I uncovered from 2016 had about 50 total mid-season transfer names, many of whom were JUCO, DII, or Joel Wincowski).
