Is JO eligible to play or is it just the scholarship/financial aid issue pending with the NCAA? Normally, the NCAA comes down hard on the small schools while the BCS schools are granted waivers.

At this point we're in the dark as to what the NCAA is looking for and what'll they'll decide. We've been speculating one versus the other and/or both reasons. We'll know more after NCAA decides and when Siena releases the info/results.

As of now JO is ineligible to play and must sit a year in residence - otherwise Siena would not have had to submit paperwork to the NCAA in an attempt to change that. At issue is whether he participated enough at BU to officially be considered a transfer who must sit, and whether or not he counts against the 13 scholarship limit despite his walk-on status. If his source of tuition funding is anything but government subsidized student loans and personal or family funds, he counts against the scholarship limit and is ineligible regardless of what happened at BU.

saintmisbehavin hit the nail on the head: "[this] conversation is like a rocking chair. Giving us something to do, but not going anywhere." Like everyone else, I keep checking this topic every time there's a new entry - hoping to find some news, only to be disappointed. Hopefully, some good news soon!

He transferred. Left Siena must sit out a year. It's pretty simple. He is responsible for leaving. Sorry can't blame anyone but him on this.

I for one don't blame anyone. Young men sometimes make decisions based on info at a point in time and then sometimes change their mind based on new info. It's called life and learning. I wouldn't even consider the decision a mistake so there's nothing to be sorry or even apologetic for.
I'm just excited at the opportunity of Siena/JO challenging the NCAA, even if it's a long shot.
I agree with those who say the current situation is he's not eligible to play this yr (for what ever reason (transfer or no ships)). However, I'm grateful as a Siena fan that Siena is trying to challenge the ncaa in order for JO to possible be eligible to play this year. That's what should get fans pumped up about, the possibility of him playing and not having to sit out. I get that others may not be optimistic or are realists, but come on you can't tell me that you wouldn't be excited, being a Siena fan, if Siena wins its appeal?

I'm a little more optimistic than usual that he'll be cleared to play this season. Very good things will come if this team(with or without JO this season) but I'm hoping he'll play this year.

Unless there are rules governing response times, I am always skeptical of getting the desired outcome when they tell you a specific date they'll let you know their answer.

Siena is not very high on the NCAAs list of priorities. I am guessing whoever makes the final decision (be it a panel or whatever) has not looked at the case in detail yet but will do so Monday and decide then.
