Again I am not saying Wright has to become Seth Curry, but he should try to improve to the point that he can keep defenses honest. Of course. And Anosike should practice his FTs too. He did practice and improved from .370 to well over .500 his last two years. The practice paid off. Scoring 20% more from the foul line is a good thing, but not as good as scoring 20% more from the three point line and opening things up inside by making defenses play honest.

Apparently Bill doesn't realize that increasing your foul shooting by 1 in 10 to 50% is pretty much insignificant . Bill that's still an awful FT % and it still had an impact on when you had to pull OD out of games because you couldn't have him clanking FT and blowing games. Does that mean he shouldn't practice, of course not ... But it wasnt gonna turn OD into Rick Barry.

If Wright goes from a 28% 3 point shooter to 35% that would make a massive difference offensively.

I am not suggesting that players entirely change their games, but rather they should strengthen other aspects of their game that they can improve on and include it in their overall game. That would open up more of an opportunity to play to their strength and not allow the defense to only have to focus on a one dimensional player. OR - have a coach that recognizes the strengths and utilizes them while, at the same time, creating situations/match-ups that minimize or mask the weaknesses. Having Lavon at the three because he supposedly promised PPC that's where he will play and then watch NO adjustments re the kid's proclivity for fouling (even though his "coach" said he had worked hard on that during the off-season) is an example of poor coaching and it costs us. Fair statement, the coaches have things to work on as well. Patsos said mistakes were made this year and improvement is needed. You seem to be on the same page

I never said OD should have been a 90%+ free throw shooter, but that he should have and to his credit did improve significantly from around 35% to 56%. Great? No, but better. That is not a bad thing.

Excellent post. The return of Brett and Imoh will help Lavon more than anyone. He needs to play with size and not be the size. His fouls are big man fouls and he is doubled in the post with no room to work. He has more success with the ball in his hands creating for himself and his teammates He will continue to work on weaknesses. Please stop with the "big man fouls". Lavon commits at least two dumb fouls a game, which if he didn't would mean he would be around for the end of more games and be more of a contributor. What I've seen this year is that typically at least one of these fouls are the result of frustration and the other is because he is trying to do to much. Hopefully when Bret and Imoh return next year this won't e the case. I have always said his challenge is to not get the fouls he can avoid. But most of his fouls come in the paint due to the fact that without Imoh and Brett he plays more of a big man role than a SF.... He is the only SF in the league that also plays center....yes he fouls too much but not as a wing..that's why I say big man fouls

PFs and Centers foul the most #Facts Lavon starts at the 3 but with the injuries he actually defends PFs and centers more than SFs and guards. That is a fact. Bisping averaged 4.2 fouls per game and fouled out of 4 of his 6 games I believe....while Lavon did not foul out in those games playing more perimeter D than inside. Folks from Bmore posted 2 years ago that Lavon was foul prone and you vehemently denied it ... Based solely on what I've watched the past 2 seasons I think it's an issue he's been dealing with his entire career. He's the leading fouler in the county and as a Soph is breaking fouling records. How can you keep making silly excuses. Bisping career foul avg 2.5 per game and 3.4 last season. #the numbers don't lie ... FACTS Lavon started off well while Bisping was targeted early. Could have been his illness but his 4.2 were the reality at that time. When he went down Lavon's fouls went up because Lavon had to play more inside. Not an excuse. Lavon got Big man fouls playing center for his 1st 3 years of HS. that's the so called rep. In AAU when he played on the perimeter or before HS he did not have a chronic fouling problem. Lavon needs to bring his down no matter where he plays....but some of you claimed he got them because he was playing the 3 and that's not the case

Not shortsighted. In fact, the opposite, -We have a PG who doesn't shoot 3's well. The perimeter shooting has to come from somewhere. He needs to shoot and score more...not less. -Also, can we afford turnovers and needless fouls out of the SF position? Many teams are playing guys who don't foul, shoot threes, and take care of the ball at that position. If he can't defend the position much better than say a Ryan Oliver anyway, why give up the turnovers and fouls on top of it and compound the issues? Look at a guy like Jamal Reynolds of Canisius. Plays 24 mins, averages 6 & 6 and takes care of the ball (2 to 1 assist ratio)...yet doesn't foul (53 in more mins while Lavon has 104). So he doesn't turn it over, rebounds more, and fouls way less. By the numbers, he beats Lavon in team contribution. And he's just 6-4. I think people are falling too much for the Lavon hype and not realizing that most MAAC teams have better overall options playing the SF right now. You CAN'T disregard the monumental impact of Lavon's fouls on the game. He's committing 2x as many fouls as your typical MAAC small forward. This has nothing to do with injury either as he set a record of 148 when he was healthy. Lavon Long has scoring talent but he is putting this team at a disadvantage in most other facets of the game. He should no longer be trusted with a blank check. KK - dropping some hard facts. Lavon seems like a great kid, his mom is a passionate supporter of his and from time to time provides good info on the board. B U T no player is bigger than the team, the program, the school or the alums, donors and sponsors who deserve nothing but the best from the head coach even if it requires some difficult decisions, changes, etc.... I agree and its up to the coach to make the decisions as his job depends on it

He fouled out most games getting 6 fouls. He's always had foul problems. It comes from being lazy and not moving his feet most times. He uses his hands and chess to much instead of using his feet. He does do good job of taking charges.

I would summarize Lavon's weaknesses as follows: 1) Plays defense more with his hands and chest instead of his feet( which I believe is the major reason why he and most of his teammates get so many fouls called on them) 2) Either an inability or unwillingness to go right and finish with right hand (necessity if you think he is a 3) 3)Lack of rotation on his jump shot (also a necessity if you think he is a 3)
PPC- we all want Lavon to reach the potential that we believe he has- in order to do that he needs to recognize his weaknesses. If he wants to become a complete player he will need to work his butt off this off season and work on the weaknesses in his game. Ryan Rossiter became a complete package by his senior year because he identified the weaknesses in his game, then worked his ass off to eliminate those weaknesses to become a dominant player by his senior season. MAAC MVP his senior year on a terrible team because he was unstoppable in the paint with his left or right hand. I hope Lavon wants it that bad because we need him to be a top MAAC team next year. Everyone on this board, regardless of the comments, wants him to succeed. He's a great kid and he deserves this success.

He led the country in fouls then too? Just this year are big man fouls though? He needs to come off the bench.
