The problem with this article is that injuries are a huge factor on THIS Siena team-both physically and mentally ! And 02 team didn't have that issue! I really feel sorry for the players and coaches!

Tony, do the math. Years D1 divided by NCAA appearances.

Agree and losing is one thing, and more importantly, they're not paying big money for less people to see it. Papi must not understand advertising. We are not in a dire situation, but next year is important. Our cross-town rival is on the rise and we have to do something soon to maintain the edge we have to keep seats in the TUC. Waiting 8-10 years is not a good plan. I'm not saying we have to win the MAAC next year or even the year after, but we do have to start challenging and being a force in this league again. That said, I am optimistic about the guys we have returning and coming in. It's up to Jimmy to get us over that hump and translate that to competitiveness and wins. Then success can breed success if the mindset changes. I understand advertising and how Siena has performed in their D1 history. If you happen to be one of the sponsors on a championship run you're getting more bang for your buck. Well, other than wishful thinking (and clicking your heels together) how can you expect sponsors selling cars, wine & liquor and donuts to keep spending their money in front of smaller crowds, not to mention new sponsors? If you understand advertising then you know they spend money to show their product in front of a larger number of people. They are not willing to wait 8-10 years to get that bang for their buck. Do you agree that they are not likely to spend the same amount when there is 6K-8K in the seats as opposed to half that amount (which you are so quick to tell us how many are 'really' in attendance)? So what is your take now? Are 6-7K really there or are these companies just so stupid that they will keep spending the same amount to a dwindling crowd for 8-10 years?

Tony, do the math. Years D1 divided by NCAA appearances. Who said anything about a NCAA appearance? Please tell me the last time Siena had 5 bad years in a row- and if we have one next year it would be 6 bad years in a row. In the past when Siena had a bad coach they hired a good coach- Siena has never hired back to back "bad" coaches. Nobody is saying next year has to be a NCAA year- it does however need to be a winning season. College basketball is much more than a NCAA appearance. For instance Deane only went to NCAA's once, but almost every year with Deane was a good one. You yourself have gone on records many times saying CBI was worthless- so by your own self proclaimed reasoning Siena has already had 5 horrible years. I agree a lot of no shows toward end of year. You are not dealing in reality if you think Siena can have 3 or 4 more years before a good year Now personally I hope Siena and Jimmy turn it around next year because next year is #no excuses!!

Tony, do the math. Years D1 divided by NCAA appearances. As long as we're talking history and tournaments identified by letters, I know you don't like CBI but why wouldn't you count NIT appearances?

We can all agree winning is the best thing possible for all involved. If they go .500 next season I'll still go the following season. This season the no shows were affected by the awful weather.

Google - Patsos trying to rebuild Siena basketball and Tim Wilkin: A conversation with Siena hoops coach Jimmy Patsos
Interesting stuff in both.

I admire that you are not a fair-weather fan, but then what does a .500 season have to do with whether you go the next year or not? Did you mean to say "I'll still go the following season no matter what happens next year." ?

One game I never see mentioned was one of the greatest games in Siena's history and it was an NCAA game it was an NIT game. The Georgia Tech game on a Wednesday afternoon with over 13,000 fans showing up. It was the only time I ever saw Bobby Crimmens hair messed up. If you put a good product on the floor CONSISTENTLY against good competition the fans will show up. The fans are rapidly loosing interest in Siena. The last time Stanford came to the Knick - Pepsi- TUC the attendance was dimal. 10 years ago if we were playing in the CBI if the Times Union Center wasn't available we would be playing in Glens Falls to a sold out croud. We can't afford a 5 year plan. If we accept that we might as well move back to the ARC.

I find this board to be very interesting. I think people overrate the assumption of playing in an arena as a great recruiting tool. Yeah there are some great perks to Siena but those alone are not going to make for a great team. Good kids want to play basketball for a winning program, and believe it or not Siena's run happened when many high school seniors were in grade school. For all the completely deserved love of Fran, his recruiting classes were part of the downfall of Siena under Mitch.
It takes recruiting and getting a new coach after Mitch was not going to change that right away. It takes time to build a program back, 5 years or not. Getting some athleticism on the wing is going to be key because the current team is slow and not good on defense or with creating their own shots. Give Siena a chance to get good players then pass judgment.

I. For all the completely deserved love of Fran, his recruiting classes were part of the downfall of Siena under Mitch. You lost me right there- yeah leaving Mitch The best big man in Siena history and MAAC PoY RR, two time NCAA rebounding champion OD , ALL MAAC performer Clarence Jackson, Big east big man transfer Brandon Walters, Kyle Downey and Owen Wignot. I agree Mitch was horrible and recruited a ton of low D1 D2 type talent and left the cupboard bare for Jimmy As for Jimmy he got lazy last year and had a bad recruiting class- the injuries this year exposed that - if we needed quick players that can get their own shot off why recruit Paige and Gottfried- sorry my friend you make no sense Fair or not the clock is ticking on Jimmy, he wont get fired next year because Siena is on the hook for some big bucks, but in case you didn't notice fans started staying away in droves toward the end of this year, this year is 2nd 20 loss season in last 3 years- fans have been patient for last 5 years- now you want them to wait another 5-- doesnt work that way .. Having said all that I like this years recruiting class and hopefully progress is made next year and all this is moot
