Men's basketball when successful is a recruiting tool for the college ... There is a direct correlation between the increased number of applicants and the NCAA bid years ... With a shrinking pool of HS seniors over next decade Siena cannot afford to allow another collapse of the program ... I believe they were taught a lesson and the administration learned it well - it will not be repeated in the future (hopefully a distant one w Jimmy staying for more then a couple of years)

No one gets a 2-yr deal. That never happens. So let's admit a 4-yr deal is the norm. stopped reading right after that.. no not everyone get a 4 year GUARANTEED contract .. Providence for years would sign guys to 6 year deal with only one or two years guaranteed. Big difference between a 4 year contract 4 year guaranteed contract

You should have kept reading....it's the most logical way the contract should have been drawn up. In fact I never mention a dime being guaranteed. I did insinuate Mitch should get two years to see what he can do, so after we fire him he only would've gotten $425K out of us.

Do you think a 4 yr/$1 mill deal is over the top for Siena? 4 yr deals are pretty standard. So now $$$$. What would you give to the coach of the best program in the conference?? I don't 250per is crazy at all. In fact it's probably too low. \ Mitch should have been given a 4 year contract- with 1 year guaranteed and maybe a 100K buyout after that. ?? Isnt the 1st year of any contract guaranteed? Any coach that gets fired DURING his 1st year (can you name one?), obviosuly broke some morals clause, and would forfeit his salary anyways.

Yeah, but the one guy you found got paid, so i guess he was "guaranteed." his 1st year We were in a very strong negotiating position with Mitch. 4 , 1-year deals basically should have been offered. NO guarantee money, no buy out. And by layering the money, if we re-up him every year, he'd be getting a 25K raise each season. No way he walks away from any offer we make.

... And then you have the Hewitt deal at GA Tech ... 5 year contract that automatically renewed every year ... So when he got canned he received pay for 4 more years ... Final 4 appearance got him this contract

Final 4 appearance got him this contract a lot of "proven" coaches get that type deal... when you take a chance on coach like Siena did with Mitch, it was crazy to give him a 4 year guarantee - one of the biggest mistakes Siena ever made when it comes to coaches

Kinda fruitless to have his argument now... Siena made a mistake with Mitch but rectified it relativity quickly. Nothing can be done about it now but you hope the school learned something in the future. Jimmy appears to have us back on the right track. I know some wonder if Jimmy can accomplish what Fran did...well I said we wouldn't know until year three. So far he's at the same point progress wise Fran was at the same time. And Rob Lanier left the program much better than Mitch did. Jimmy didn't get a Kojo Mensah or Scoop Jordan or Michael Haddix like Fran did.

Guys I know it has been a long break between games but this is pointless. Let's hope Jimmie wins so much at Siena that we have to worry about our next coach.
Until then Let's Go Saints!

Since this is pointless. Fran left the program with nothing. Still a jump ball on where its headed. I'm on the fence.

See, I don't think he did. He left two great big men (Rossiter and OD), and a few decent wings (CJ, Wignot, Downey and Poole).
The problem was the next coach/recruiting class. Imagine a coach like Jimmy bringing in players like Wright, Long, White and Wolfe with those those leftovers? I think we'd be chugging along at 20+ wins a year still.
