The kid Iona has sitting out (Amayo) is as good, if not better than Cole. Iona is the clear cut favorite again with all the higher end transfers.

Forgot about him-- he will be like a 23 year old sophomore-plus I'm sure Iona will get a few more transfers/juco's over next few months. Agreed Iona will be favorite

Manhattan coach intense and a mover shaker. He will get a tap on the shoulder and money right be gone. Iona's coach same scenario. Baron defy Italy gone if someone calls, he wants to go back to higher leagues. The maac is what it is training ground for coach. Perhaps why Siena to their benefited picked JP, he seems long term.

Is this some kind of dig against Siena and Patsos? I would take JP as a coach over M any day. JP will probably not be long term at Siena win or lose. The only variable that may change that is a move to the A10.

I don't think it was a dig, I think he is trying yo say that JP has the potential to want to stay at Siena.

Agreed Iona will be favorite They already have a JUCO signed up for next year according to their board on the recruiting thread. Coming in as a sophomore. bit of a mystery as he has a different last name from his HS days and didn't play in college this past season. Tony you might be right about Amayo's age. looked him up on verbal commits. he had some BCS offers then wound up bouncing around and now at Iona. really good player though.

Maybe we can get Rossiter, Moore and Hasbrouck to legally change their names and re-register for classes!

I don't think it was a dig, I think he is trying yo say that JP has the potential to want to stay at Siena. Masiello reminds me of Paul Hewitt (coaching wise not personality). Paul was a young up and coming coach playing uptempo like Masiello stayed 3 years won a MAAC title and left. Coaches in their mid to late 30's are gone at the first whiff of success. Patsos is a guy who could win big at Siena and stay a relatively long time (5-8 years between the time Fran/Deane stayed). If we get into the A10 and are able to pay Jimmy $1 Million plus a year he could retire here like Mark Few almost certainly will at Gonzaga. I don't see him jumping for a random BCS job. Maybe I'm naive but I tend to believe him when he proclaimed Maryland was his "dream job".

I don't think you will EVER see Siena paying 1M/year.

I don't think you will EVER see Siena paying 1M/year. Not in the MAAC but in the A10 if you go to the NCAA tournament and win you keep most of the money unlike the MAAC. Thus you can pay your coach $1 million a year. Fran was making around 550-600K his last year so the commitment is there for the right coach. But you need the revenue to be able to pay that much - which can't happen in the MAAC and their "share the wealth" policies.

I don't think you will EVER see Siena paying 1 M/year. 550-600K to 1M is a huge jump; and that was probably close to the upper limit, IMHO. Without additional post graduate programs, enrollment is severely hampered as well. All of the extra $$ you are busily counting will have to be dispersed to other programs to attain/retain competitive status with the move to the A-10.

Note:
Smart’s new contract with VCU, signed Oct. 11, keeps his base salary at $450,000 per season.
But his supplemental income increases in the first year to $950,000, up from $800,000 in his previous contract.
In the second year of the new contract, Smart’s supplemental income increases to $1 million.
Smart’s contract is for 10 years, from 2013 through 2023. But in the first five years of the deal, the contract automatically extends by one year, taking it to 2028.

I don't see Siena ever paying a coach $1M (the academics would go ballistic) but if they did, I don't think that coach is Patsos.....

If Jimmy or another coach does well..I could easily see him getting the money Fran got! And maybe even 700k if Siena is in the A10!
