Congrats to Manhattan. Masiello will do well at Boston College Manhattan is 11-1 in their last 12 games only loss was at Siena on Feb. 21st. Glad Iona lost... only Siena goes to the NCAAs 3 straight years out of the MAAC! For all of Iona's talent and regular season wins they have one MAAC title since Cluess took over. He's a very good coach but struggles in the big game (twice loses in finals as a #1 seed and the BYU choke in the NCAAs) Siena-Iona for the MAAC title next March at the TUC - and this time the Saints win!!

Iona loses a lot-- their best player Armand- A glue guy in Bowman and best defensive player in Poole--almost 40 ppg, and 90 min-- Iona will have to beat the bushes in prison league for suitable replacements

Nice game by the Jasper. Can't say I'm surprised or that I am unhappy with outcome. Gaels not my favorite team though seem they are good young men off the court. Perhaps Manhattan coach will get an offer, again would not surprise anyone. Not sure what he has left after this year, I know he took over with some good players. Good luck to jasper at the dance.

Manhattan loses Brown, Beamon and Alvarado but they do bring back some decent guards. Richards I would think should start and be one of the top 3pt shooters in the MAAC. Andujar returns and they have 3 or so pretty decent recruits coming in next year. don't sell them short next year just yet. Iona brings back probably the best trio in the MAAC next year in Laury, Williams and English. Have a pretty good transfer sitting out this year who had big offers out of HS. The MAAC is going to be tougher than most think next year

Always have guys graduate and other step in-- so I understand that-- but the fact remains unless Iona gets some transfers( and they usually do) they dont have shit outside the top 3-- Gals basically played 6 men this year-- and 3 of them leave and every game played against Iona teams were geared to stop Armand-- English will find life much tougher next year. Jaspers have some pieces..but the top 3 were very good Beamon was a star and Brown allowed them to be very aggressive with press he erased a lot of mistakes. Of course Canisius loses top 4 and will return to bottom of MAAC where they belong-- But Your point is valid-- Manhattan, Iona and Quinny all have some nice returning talent, they need to plug in some pieces and if they do they will be good... and oh yeah dont sell Peacocks short they return almost their entire team and Dunn is a terrific coach
I'd be shocked if Masiello comes back and Cluess is so-so -- if someone offers him big bucks he is gone-- guy came from d2 and now Iona so he has never made big bucks, although his recruiting style could turn off some teams off so he will probably be back

I think with Brown, Alvarado, and Beamon gone that Andujar will be first team all league. He's unstoppable when he drives. Also, while Pankey has been a disappointment there is still a ton of talent there you don't normally see at the MAAC level so he could take a big step forward next year. Manhattan will take a hit but they will still be solid next year and possibly good if the coach sticks around and can reload.

My thoughts, assuming no coaching changes and everyone scheduled to return actually returns:
Iona is going to be the big favorite because they have 3 high end players.
Siena and the Q will be the next tier.
Manhattan will take a step back because their guard play looks spotty but is in the next tier along with Rider, Canisius, Marist and St Peters.
Monmouth, FF and Niagara will make up the bottom tier again, though I could see Monmouth taking a step forward.

They had some young bigs very similar to our kids that need to develop, they'll be interesting to watch in the future.

Where the hell did King Rice find all that size?

My early take on the MAAC next year:
1. Iona 2. Siena 3. Quinnipiac 4. St. Peter's 5. Manhattan (Masiello likely leaves) 6. Marist 7. Rider 8. Monmouth 9. Canisius 10. Fairfield 11. Niagara
Siena will be picked either 2nd or 3rd ... let the bulls-eye be on Iona's back. We have a lot of potential but some question marks too. If those question marks are answered correctly we can win the regular season and tournament championships in 2014-2015.

The local ABC affiliate in NYC made a little splash about Manhattan making it to the NCAA's which was nice coverage for the team and the MAAC. They interviewed Beamon, Brown and Panky and to a man they were bright, articulate young men who were a credit to their team and the league. They left a strong impression that they were not there just to be ballers but were young men pursuing an education as well. Great ambassadors, just as the Siena guys were when they had their moment in the sun. Let's hope they win one or two.
