By far the most controversial all MAAC pick was Mason on the 2nd team- I can see both sides of the coin on this- on one hand he did lead the MAAC in scoring on other hand his team stunk and you would think a 1st team would get more than a few MAAC wins, the few times I saw him this year it looked like he was more concerned with his points than winning games- take a guy like Baron if he wanted to he could have scored 30ppg this year but he choose to get his teammates involved -- what do you think.. should Mason have been 1st team? maac.canisiusgriffin.com/why-antoine-mason-deserved-first-team-honors/

I love that he didn't. I can't be down on a siena player for scoring points while losing and then take a high scorer and place him on an all MAAC first team. I don't like ball hogs...even worse when your team sucks.

They could have put 6 players on first team like last year. Looking at the stats English and Mason had similar stats. the differences were Mason scoring 7 pts/g more but English shot better from 3 pt 37%-29% and better in assists 4.3-1.5. There have been rumors that Mason may transfer to Hofstra next year as a 5th year senior, so maybe the coaches didn't want a 1st team all maac player who transfers out. I am sure crazier things have happened behind the scenes picking these teams

Seems like we all had no problem with Rossiter winning POY when he was the best player on a awful team.
Mason was all by himself. He got to the line 324 times (100 more than Baron!) this year! That's impressive for a guard, and he shot a very respectful .433 from the field for a "ball hog."

Before your time, but we had a center named Ryan Rossiter a few years ago that was the POY in the MAAC and we had a 14-17 record. So I'm going on history that individual players, in a team sport, can be considered for postseason accolades in our league. Shouldn't hold it against the player because he has no teammates. His 324 FT's this year is mind blowing. The rumor he is leaving, with one year of eligibilty left to join his old coach at Hofstra, may very well have hurt his chances at 1st team. If I was him, I'd do the same thing.

Rossiter was on a bad team. Mason is on a horrible team (OD led the nation in rebounding and only made 2nd team last year). Plus Rossiter's POY was kind of a career achievement award.

This is essentially what I was going to say. The Siena team Rossiter's senior year was underwhelming and a disappointment in terms of fan expectations, but they didn't lose 10 league games in a row like this Niagara team. That's abhorrent. I think OD's season last year on a similarly terrible MAAC team is a good precedence of a player with a nationally significant stat line that simply isn't doing enough to get his team wins. Unless you made a 6th spot on the 1st team, I wouldn't consider knocking anyone else down to make room for Mason. Overall I think the All-MAAC selections are on-point this year.

Yes he belonged on the first team. Despite way less talent around him he shot 21 points higher than Beamon and doubled him in assists. Put Mason on Manhattan instead of Beamon and they win the MAAC.

Plus Rossiter's POY was kind of a career achievement award. Then change the name of the award to POCareer, not POY. I was shocked Ryan won the POY on a team with a 14-17 record. First time in the history of the award a losing player won. Was he the best player? Yes, but would Siena still stink that year without him? Yup. Is it Masons fault his team was stripped of all its talent when the coach jumped ship? He should pay the price for sticking around and honoring his commitment to the school?

He could have bailed out on his school like his teammates. He didn't, It does have the feeling of him being punished for being loyal and staying with a poor team. I give him a lot of credit for being loyal to his school and team.

Not only was Mason's team bad he also made no one better. And was slowed or shutdown in games and his team lost. 14-17 is not as bad as Niagara was this year. Baron gave us much more of a problem than Mason did... you are not the best player because you score the most...

Not every player has to "make his teammates better." Some are asked to score the ball, and with his 324 trips to the line, it looks like he got his team to the bonus fairly quickly every game if he was shooting 10+ FT a game.
GG must be a Bulls fan! lol
I don't know who, or if, Mason should be on the 1st team, I'm just sick of the homer double standard by most out here. It's okay for Rossiter to receive awards even though he was the leader of a 14-17 team?? I guess he didn't make his teammates better huh? lol (NEITHER were PG's either, so don't there)
Can't have it both ways people.
PPC--No one is comparing him to Baron. Baron was easily the best player in the league. Maybe by the bigget margin I've seen since Lionel Simmons. Point guards can easily make other players better. They always have the ball. You're comapring apples and oranges.

I agree... Mason is a volume shooter and his points did not bring enough wins
