Not every player has to "make his teammates better." Some are asked to score the ball, and with his 324 trips to the line, it looks like he got his team to the bonus fairly quickly every game if he was shooting 10+ FT a game. GG must be a Bulls fan! lol I don't know who, or if, Mason should be on the 1st team, I'm just sick of the homer double standard by most out here. It's okay for Rossiter to receive awards even though he was the leader of a 14-17 team?? I guess he didn't make his teammates better huh? lol (NEITHER were PG's either, so don't there) Can't have it both ways people. PPC--No one is comparing him to Baron. Baron was easily the best player in the league. Maybe by the bigget margin I've seen since Lionel Simmons. Point guards can easily make other players better. They always have the ball. You're comapring apples and oranges. Its never easy to make teammates better from any position. ..I dont think Baron makes his teammates better as he is a ball hog... Mason was on a bad team and he was not a bright spot IMOP.. we could not do anything to stop or slow Baron from getting 40 on us..We were able to contain Mason both times and beat his team. I did not watch much of RR but 14-17 is more competitive than what Niagara put up this season... all those points Mason scored meant nothing

He got 40 in 55 min, and honestly, he didn't play that well before the 3rd OT. The point guard can EASILY make everyone of their team better. In fact it's their job. No other position has that luxury.
And it's not fair to compare Mason with Baron. One kid had a lot of talent around him, one didn't.

As for Mason vs Baron its not the talent around them its the talents they have. Baron is a much more polished player than Mason and that would be the case no matter how good or bad their teams are.

I agree Baron is much more polished than Mason-- I dont question PoY of year or whether Mason should have replaced Baron on 1st team -- but should he have replaced say Sophomore AJ English -- who was at best 2nd or 3rd banana on his own team -- and no offense to AJ who is a terrific player

I was shocked to see English on first team ahead of Mason. No knock on English who had a really good season while learning the PG position but like Tony said he was probably the 4th most valuable player on Iona. No question Armand and Laury were more important but they said on the ESPN3 game Sunday that Iona was 19-4 with Williams playing and 1-5 without. Everybody game planned to stop Mason and he was the only real threat and he still produced. English did not face that kind of special defensive pressure and Iona had too many weapons for him to be singled out. Any knocks on Baron not making his team or teammates better is crazy. he was 2nd in assists and 3rd in steals. Baron is hands down the best player in the MAAC and POY. As far as Mason they should have put 6 players on first team and add Mason.

Mason should probably have made the first team over him since he led the nation in scoring at one point. There was no need to add 2 players from one team to exclude him. But the coaches are the voters on the other hand...their selections are based on the impact the players made in the games and I still believe Mason was easier to slow or stop than the Iona guys. We had 2 guys kill us the first game and two different guys light us up the 2nd game...

I agree Mason should have been easier to stop and slow down, but that's because he was really their only weapon. And he still scored 25 pts a game with teams keying on him. plus he impacted the games by going to the foul line 300 plus times, putting defensive players in foul trouble trying to guard him. I love English game but with Armand, Williams, Laury and Bowman teams could just not key on him. just imagine how many assists a game Wright would have had being surrounded by so many offensive weapons and playing that style of game.

I think the fact Mason is probably going to Hofstra next year hurt him.. but that's just a guess on my part

Yep Mason gave MAAC coaches a big FU 38 points on 13 for 19 shooting,6 rebounds , 4 assists Red foxes ran into a buzzsaw.

what was he doing during the 25 losses? so he feels snubbed and comes out and takes it out on the 8th place red foxes. You want to know why he didnt make first team. Im thinking that last place finish had something to do with it.

Siena didn't double him in any of the games they played. Most college teams don't double... they will go zone if a player is kill them or... double in paint/post. still pretty rare
Ball hog.
