I don't think anyone is saying Siena should exclusively recruit local players but there is nothing wrong with identifying local kids to be a part of the program. Patsos will always focus his recruiting on MD/VA/DC but the recruiting is easier when they are close by ... you can get to more games, the kids will be at your games. I think many get too wrapped up in stats both good and bad. Let's see how he does in AAU play this summer. Might blow up, in which case Siena was on him early. Or, he might be exposed in which case they'll move on. (Given his size and scoring ability, I expect that he'll garner a whole lotta attention this summer.) I agree with this. in the case of Wincowski, his stats coupled with the attention he gets on the court warrant keeping an eye on him. I believe he will be a better player with better players. He will receive less attention than he has at Lake George. Going to be interesting to follow his development over the coming year+. regarding local players, I would hope we are in with any of them that are worthy of playing at or above this level.

Osinski and Sniezyk were the last two local players of relevance that we signed

That's too bad if Joel quit the rocks- it would have given himself a chance to prove himself. In the end not surprised

A friend who pays attention to this stuff told me this morning that based on what he's seen he thinks it was probably a quit before being cut/not making the team decision. Based on what little I've seen of this player I think his suspicions are correct.
This lead us to a discussion regarding the merits of marketing yourself to the right level of play. Nothing wrong with DII and DIII ball. In fact a lot of DII and DIII schools provide a significant amount of aid for their players.
Nonetheless I wish him nothing but the best!

agree with what? I wanted to see him play some for the Rocks to determine what level he is at. Still no legit confirmation that he isn't with the rocks and is listed on their roster for the EYBL. I would think it a dumb move to quit... Im sure if he didn't make the Black team he could've come on and played with the Orange team and still expanded his game. We will have to wait and see what is officially true. The rocks play the 26th in California so we should know soon

Can we close our eyes now? No train wreck here- to most of the more knowledgeable posters on this board this is no surprise at all

Getting run even as a backup with the rocks prominence would've been great exposure. The flip side of that is rotting on the bench might have exposed him as not being that good when competing with top competition for playing time. In which case this move may have been wise. Better to continue putting up big numbers in his league and at least keep his allegedly lone remaining division 1 offer to Albany.

Bullet dodged. Bottom line if Siena coaching staff is done here, so should we be. Not a focus, thread should be locked and moved. Just MHO.

I hope the kid has a great senior year and gets some D-1 offers. I do think his best level is D-2 (reminds a lot of Shea Bromorski), and that's where he'd get lots of minutes, which is obviously very important to him.
Not wanting to compete for p/t won't look good on his resume though. Sometimes when small school kids step up in weight classes, they see the writing on the wall.
He WILL go to college for free, and that's a great accomplishment. I wish him nothing but the best, and hope he finds the right college fit.
