Again, I dont pay that much attention to recruiting but I dont think you can discount a kid that is dominant in high school as a sophomore just because he is from a small school. I always had a soft spot for Henry Steele type players. (bonus points for anyone who gets the reference) oh yes.............One on One.................and that coach, played by G.D. Spradlin was quite the bastard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wincowski is a coaches son- so you know he will be fundamentally sound can certainly shoot the rock. He sort of reminds me of a former Patsos player Brett Harvy. I'm not sold on Joel- but he bears watching for sure if you liked Scott Knapp, you will be super excited about Wincowski...............and this kid is only a junior, get out and see him play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This team needs scorers and 3 point shooting. If Wincowski brings both, as well as the athleticism needed to play Jimmy ball, I'm not seeing the downside of bringing him on. That said, if they sign Taplin this season, the chances of landing Wincowski are greatly reduced. We already know Wright will play most of the minutes at the 1 the next 3 years with these guys doing spot duty there - leaving these guys to play the 2 mostly. When you add White and Paige into the mix, the 2 position would be awfully crowded yet again. I say get Wincowski if they fail to get Taplin this season, but they don't need both. The team needs a scoring big man more than an overabudance of 2 guards.

I wanna see him, but it did concern me, that in his one "up" game (vs. a bigger school) so far this year, he reallly struggled against Hoosick Falls.

If you're lone player everyone has to worry about, the defense tends to collapse on you. When playing "up" games, these teams know Wincowski is the only one on his team capable of killing them, so they focus on shutting him down and make the rest of his teammates beat them. I thus wouldn't worry about that one game sample.

Scott Knapp played in a different era, times have changed since then. There is always room for a guy who can shoot the ball and has a quick release. I am not saying that Winkowski is Knapp like, just that the game has not changed that much.

I'm saying that the athleticism of the other teams has changed since the Scott Knapp era; within the MAAC and even to a greater degree in a conference.

Or Hoosick Falls had better athletes than the D schools he's used to going up against?

The teams in his league likely try to do the same thing - but even with a group effort those players at that level aren't good enough to stop him. In the up games, they have the athletes as good as him to stop him with double teams or box and one defenses. At the div. 1 level Wincowski will have help. He won't be the sole player the defense has to worry about. So that's why those HS games against top competition foucsed soley on him aren't very telling. Besides, if he only scores 15 instead of 30 against tough D, is that really struggling?

Wincowski led all scorers with 19. No one else on the team did much of anything.

LOL and that's my concern when your one "up" game is against Hoosick Falls-- what does that say about the competition? --- all I can think back to is another small school player that put up unreal stats- in fact I think he was new york state all time leading 3 point shoot er that the time Jim Ryder.. great shooter-- just took all day to get his shot off.. I need to see Wincowski in person

And if he thinks Hoosick Falls defense is tough, wait'll he faces the A-10 athlete every night!! lol
