Wincowski scored 19 in a win over East division leading Argyle to win the Adirondack League title. Lake George finished 16-0 in Adirondack League play. Next up in the playoffs for Lake George is Middleburg

Next up in the playoffs for Lake George is Middleburg With Camron there is no need for Wincowski they!re the same player . In fact given the level CG plays at I'd say he's probably better. Wincowski numbers are inflated vs bad comp. in this game he goes for well below his avg against one of the better ADK league teams. Doesn't say much for him..... Time to start recruiting a couple of studs, I'd like to see JP win a couple of recruiting battles against some better schools. If we aspire to join the A10 it's time to up our recruiting game

Gottfried is the second or third best player on his team. Discounting wincowski when he did very well leading his aau team to a very good aau season against a national schedule is not being all that fair. I'm not saying who is better but I think some are not being exactly fair to wincowski simply because he played for Lake George

As a side note, the Argyle Jr/Sr High School enrollment is about 350 (grades 7-12) who as was stated was division leading prior to JW scoring 19. Wow, that's about 35 kids total in each class. Hard to believe they can even field a competitive team yet they were leading their divison prior to that game. i

However, to say he played a national schedule could be a bit misleading as I have heard that they played more second level tourneys/groupings. If true he didn't necessarily play against the top competition.

From the TU
"Wincowski named as MaxPreps All-American
Lake George guard Joel Wincowski, the 2013 state Class C Player of the Year as a sophomore and the 2014 Times Union Small School Player of the Year, was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-America squad as an honorable mention.
Wincowski is the Warriors' all-time leading scorer. He averaged 28.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.6 steals and 4.5 assists to help his team go 19-2.
Several Division I schools are recruiting Wincowski, including UAlbany and Siena. He is competing this spring and summer with the Albany City Rocks."

He shot 29% from three this year in a bad league. I understand teams were doubling him but he also shot just 62% from the FT line. They do not guard you there Cotton. Previous year he shot just 69%. And it's certainly not for lack of sample size. Those numbers don't scream shooter for a shooter. www.maxpreps.com/athlete/joel-wincowski/XyFnWPTnEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/basketball-stats.htm

It was news on a local player that we are having listed as offered. I merely posted an update. His recruitment level will begin to clarify as he plays the Spring and Summer with the City Rocks. In regards to FTs... FT shooting has a lot to do with stamina as well. When you are the focal point of every aspect of your team... as he is. Without a doubt fatigue becomes an issue that impacts both FT shooting and his perimeter shooting. I believe his game will shine when he is a complimentary player on a good team instead of a go-to player on a lesser skilled team. Poole has a lot of the same issues when looked to for go-to scoring etc. Lets see how the AAU season plays out

I don't get the fascination with local players from the CD. Over the years teh good CD players go elsewhere. With a few exceptopns, like Scoot Knapp , Jeff Robinson, and a few others most of the local players recruted by Siena have been disappointments ( see JO for 2014).
Jimmy has good contacts in MD and DC and should concentrate down there unless a local stud wants to go to Siena.
The overall level of competition for the CD HS players is not as good as the big city level of competition.

JO's early season injury derailed his progress. Tough to deem him a "disappointment" yet. He played very well in the CBI

Scott is from Utica. We haven't recruited a relevant local player in a longggg time.

Two local players of the last 10 years who played D1 ball locally/successfully:
Josh Duell - Transferred from Vermont Lucious Jordan - Transferred from Loyola
I wonder if one of these two players could perhaps speak to the value of coming back home to play D1 ball to local recruits...hmmm...

I don't think anyone is saying Siena should exclusively recruit local players but there is nothing wrong with identifying local kids to be a part of the program. Patsos will always focus his recruiting on MD/VA/DC but the recruiting is easier when they are close by ... you can get to more games, the kids will be at your games.
I think many get too wrapped up in stats both good and bad. Let's see how he does in AAU play this summer. Might blow up, in which case Siena was on him early. Or, he might be exposed in which case they'll move on. (Given his size and scoring ability, I expect that he'll garner a whole lotta attention this summer.)

I think it is important to be in contact with all local kids who show DI potential. Get in early and maintain contact. If they are good enough or better yet blow up and want to stay home it is a good thing. If they choose to go away to play DI, if their choice doesn't work out for whatever reason and they want to return and Siena has a need and an interest, it is a good thing. Having local players who can contribute on the team is a good thing for the program. If this Lake George kid blows up in AAU good for him. If Siena is in with him and he blows up good for Siena. If he doesn't nothing is lost. I hope he does well.
