Ahmad Gilbert, a 6'6" 190lb SF, from Constitution HS in Philadelphia has been given his release from George Mason today. He's a 3 star recruit and is an incoming senior out of HS with 4 years of immediate eligibilty. Maybe someone out here could get ahold of Paul Hewitt and get the inside on this kid?? Jimmy should be on the phone with this kid right now. Think Paul might push him towards a school that he had great success at or the one who just ran him out of town? Dirty business but we need more players!!

He certainly would be a good get, but he was/is being followed by other A-10 and others and many still have scholarships available and are still actively recruiting SF in the late period. Is it possible to step in late and get him, sure, but not probable.

We'll never know unless we try. Paul would definitely put a good word in for Siena, and the kid might listen.

Early reports of schools he is considering are BC, Minnesota, and South Florida.
No chance with him.

A number of Siena players were recruited by BCS Schools- Poole ( Minnesota ) Ubiles ( Seton Hall, UConn, Memphis and Boston College) and Oliver was recruited by a number of BCS schools before he got hurt in H.S.!

Much harder for Siena to compete with those schools beginning at such a late stage in the recruiting cycle.

Yes, but having such a short time for him to decide makes him more likely to go to a bigger school. Siena's best chance of getting big time recruits is to be on them early. Plus there's little chance that the bigger schools will lose interest at this point.

Hewitt could be a contact reach out, doesn't hurt. I hate the defeatist attitude, make the attemp if it's no fine but not trying is worse.

I don't think our odds of landing him are very good, but the thing is... the odds of landing an impact player increase with the number of quality players you try to recruit. That's my attitude, and that's what I think Jimmy should be doing. That being said I don't think it's ridiculous to advise fans against getting their hopes up on this one. I'd be thrilled to be wrong, and for the record I have no problem with people discussing this type of recruit.

The only reason I'm saying to reach out to this kid IS the Hewitt connection. He obviously made a great impression on the kid and his family. He could possibly reach out to the kid, if he thought it was a good situation for him, and who knows how special Siena is more than Paul?
