OK for Minnesota, but too risky for Siena??? More than anything THAT is why he'd have been a big risk for Siena.

OK for Minnesota, but too risky for Siena??? Minnesota is not a mid major launching pad. It plays in the Big Ten.

If he signed with Minn then we were never going to get him. Period. Why take a "launching pad" job when you can go right to the top?

CBS reporting Richard Pitino being offered job at Minnesota pedigree aside.............man, that is one huge jump for a guy with only 1 yr head coaching experience.................Gophers are really taking a big gamble here..............but as mentioned here, had we taken him, likely he was 1 yr and gone no matter what the results were!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitino to Minny, Enfield to USC, the BCS schools are living in the moment and going with potential, fearing that Siena would grab these guys and rocket past them in the RPI. I knew the MAAC feared Siena, but now it is evident that the BCS schools do as well.

I don't doubt that had is signed with Siena he would have walked away this week to go to Minny and never coached a minute at Siena.

Minnesota is crazy one year experience- he will get chewed up by Beilein,Bo Ryan, Crean, Izzo, Mata, Fran list goes on and on... Big ten has crazy good coaches .. more power to them if they hire him, I'm ecstatic Siena passed on him, he would have used Siena as a stepping stone, and if it was for a year or two, would have gutted the program

At least now we know who turned who down.....
Tony: EVERY guy that comes here wants to WIN, and then move on to a million dollar job. If you don't think you've got your head in the sand. Jimmy gets us back to prominence you really think the BCS schools won't be all over him? lol
Depending on how fast he does it, it could be 2 years, maybe 3. I wanted Pitino because I thought he'd give us the best chance to get the talent level back to where it once was. I still think that. He'll get Minnesota some great players (starting with the homegrown Mickey D's type PG) and they'll be back in the top half of that league.
As strong as the Big 10 was supposed to be, they are very fortunate to have one team in the Final Four.
