At least now we know who turned who down..... Tony: EVERY guy that comes here wants to WIN, and then move on to a million dollar job. If you don't think you've got your head in the sand. Jimmy gets us back to prominence you really think the BCS schools won't be all over him? lol Depending on how fast he does it, it could be 2 years, maybe 3. I wanted Pitino because I thought he'd give us the best chance to get the talent level back to where it once was. I still think that. He'll get Minnesota some great players (starting with the homegrown Mickey D's type PG) and they'll be back in the top half of that league. As strong as the Big 10 was supposed to be, they are very fortunate to have one team in the Final Four. HJ - I'm really interested in knowing what appeals to you about Pitino? I know he turned FIU from 5 to 18 wins in one year. Isn't it possible that was a fluke or a result of his father's influence or throwing kids his way. Not saying he won't turn into a good coach long-term. But the guy is 30 years old - what, in particular is there about him that you like?

You don't think if Patsos does well here and the MD job opens he doesn't jump? Quicker than MTS says yes to seconds on Thanksgiving! Very funny HJ I don't think Jimmy will be here forever but I think you can expect him for at least 4 years and maybe even six or seven. Like Fran, his career record isn't glowing and will take some time before we are winning to the point where he'll attract major attention from BCS schools. And who knows maybe we will move to the A10 ...be able to keep money from winning NCAA games (unlike the MAAC who got it all from the Vandy/Ohio St wins and split it 10 ways) and be able to pay our coach $1 million a year like VCU, Wichita St and Butler do. A Pitino, Toole or Rhoades had a couple of 20-10 seasons they'd be gone most likely.

Agree that the chances are probably less, but if Turgeon tanks, you never know. Let's just take it one day at a time starting with his assistants and then see what happens with the roster.

Please of course coaches want to move up, look at Pitino's disciples he tries to place them and and move them after a few years. What do you think will happen to FIU this year if Pitino leaves... takes his top recruits etc and if a guy is someplace for two or three years and he knows he is out of there- he recruits any kid he can get in when he leaves the old school has a bunch of academic risks flunking out or transfers and if you don’t think that you are the one with your head in the sand..I’m glad we passed on Pitino he would have been a disaster for the school. I was happy with the 3 finalists we had and I like Jimmy a lot

Like Hoopjunkie, I was thinking that if we hired Pitino it would make the transition to the A10 (if in fact we do get the invite) more smoothe and perhaps entice him to stay awhile. If we were in the A10, it would make it more attractive for up and coming coaches and we could just keep the carousel going --- risky but potential for big upsides. As you can see big time programs see his value so it appears his only downside is continuity-- not his age or inexperience as some would have us believe.
But, the Patsos hire was even more risky as John is taking a chance on a guy with past personal issues, mixed success, lukewarm initial fan support at likely a higher cost, but the upside potential is there too with his vast head coaching and assistant experience and the fact that he seems to actually want to be here. Looking back, John said all along he wanted somebody with head coaching experience and he had separately stated a desire for continuity, If this works out some of the people out there killing John lately should be retracting their statements. If Jimmy does do well and Siena does desire continuity, it will be interesting to see how far they will go to keep him --statements aside money talks so Siena should not kid themselves..... otherwise might as well go ahead and do the 2 to 3 year up and comer thing....

I know nothing about how well "Mrs. Jimmy" does as Republican lobbiest in Harrisburg PA but it quite possible she brings home a bigger paycheck than Jimmy does. It is a business built on relationships and they take time so it may turn out to be a factor in how long Jimmy's tenure lasts (as long as he keeps winning). Or maybe not.

Many Siena alums have held big roles in government and are big lobbyist. I feel very confident they will welcome her or at least open some doors for her.
