No matter which one of the three get the job I'm happy. I think they are all good coaches. Let's remember something though Siena is a very good mid-major job (and program) there are no LOCKS when it comes to coaching. Heck, even with BCS programs it's a gamble.
Some choices are more of a risk than others. Mitch and Bob Beyer were big risks. Paul Hewitt and Rob Lanier had almost the same resume and Lanier might have even had a better resume.
Yes Fran took two teams to the NCAAs but his career record was very similar to Patsos. But people know Patsos too well and that works against him. If he came from the Southern conference I think everyone would approve of his resume.
The three finalist all have head coach experience (Rhoades with only D3 experience). All three come from winning programs and come with reputations as good recruiters and good coaches.
For the record I'd rank them 1) Toole 2) Rhoades 3) Patsos
No guarantees but I think the risk is low with any of these three guys.
I really hope the next coach will indeed take us to the next level how badly do I want to see Siena playing on this weekend someday!

As I have mentioned before, my daughter was an administrator at Loyola for fours years and had a fair amount of contact with Patsos. She found him to be personable, smart and easy to work with. We have had coaches with passion before and Mike Deane and Fran fit that bill. Jimmy would be a fine addition IMO. Sure, I like Toole and Rhodes but have no problem with Patsos.

I'm happy with any if these guys, overall. Rhoades seems more risky. I really like both Toole and Patsos. I'm pretty excited for this next chapter in Siena hoops program history.

Any of the three is a home run by me. I think things are looking bright for Siena's future. Interesting that a twitter comment already made that a player would follow Coach Toole to Siena..... Exciting times!

Patsos is in Albany already or will be soon. Are you stalking him or did you give him a ride up from MD. Dude you're a Patsos groupie!

I'll bet we have a new coach by Monday! Or even Easter Sunday-fits the rebirth/resurrection theme! and anyone NOT named Rob or Bob or Mitch is fine with me

Not related to coaching, recruiting, etc., but the day after Loyola played Siena at the TU this past season my niece was flying to Baltimore and was on the same plane as the Loyola basketball team. Afterward she was telling me how nice the players and coaches were. About 2 weeks later, she received a FedEx package.... Containing Loyola basketball apparel... T's, polos, sweatshirts, hats, etc. My niece never knew of Loyola and knows/cares even less about college basketball. But she is now a loyal rooter of Loyola basketball & spreading the word by alerting people following her Facebook page of Loyola's upcoming games/results. She is a Loyola basketball & Jimmy Patsos fan for life. That's good PR, but more importantly just plain nice!

I also think Patsos is a nice guy and would be a great addition to the Siena community. He may be a little bombastic at times, but he really cares about his players and seems to love his job. My only concern is that he won't be able to take Siena to the next level.

Listen this isn't a sport that you have to be "nice"....most of these players a spoiled in todays AAU world...you need a coach who can get in the face of the players while still being able to maintain respect and motivate...something Fran was great at

We need a coach who can grow this program and help us become a solid mid major program. No reason we can't be a VCU type team in the A10. I just don't think Patsos is the guy. I look at Toole and I see a Brad Stevens type coach.

When I saw Toole interviewed after the Kentucky win he did remind me of Stevens. Calm, in control and knew exactly what he had to do to close out the game. I was very impressed.

Of the three, who would be the best recruiter? That's a tough one. Rhoades gets the best talent currently...but that's to play at VCU for Shaka Smart, who ultimately closes the deal. Mitch got a lot of good players too when it was for Fran - but not so much when he had to be the closer. So Rhoades won't be killing it like that at Siena. Toole has never operated above the low -major level, so who knows what he can do at Siena's level? Fran certainly kicked it up a notch from his SoCo days. Patsos is a decidedly mediocre recruiter except when he gets talented transfers. And don't blame it on Loyola's academic standards. Patsos has admittedly recruited academic risks there. In 9 years just 1 BCS win, 1 tourney title, and no regular season titles says a lot.
