I would not be unhappy with Patsos, but the three years before the last two are a concern to me. Only one of the three was at .500. The fact is that if Mitch had gone .500 this year after his prior two seasons, most people would have wanted him gone. If Jimmy has three straight years here like those three at Loyola, our fan base would not be happy. His lack of success over that period was "self-inflicted" in that those were all his recruits. He also was not required to play the number of guarantee games that Fran had to play at UNCG.
One thought on Rhoades: the VCU board (RamNation) has a several page thread which is very positive about Rhoades and his ability to be a D1 head coach. Who was Siena's last assistant that our fans would have said is really ready to be a head coach at the D1 level? Brian Nash? Capper?

I agree I think all 3 are really good candidates. I’d be happy with any of the 3 and I also hope everyone will rally around the new coach , even if your “horse” didn’t get the job

I prefer we get the "great" one. Siena shouldnt be in the L column for too long with any of them but the upside is larger for two of the three (in my opinion). The third is kind of a "safe" bet to stop the embarrassment as a program

He also was not required to play the number of guarantee games that Fran had to play at UNCG. That's the excuse for Fran winning 7 and 11 games those two consecutive years?

No, and you know it's not. Rather, it is putting into context Patsos' being nine games over .500 over nine years at Loyola and Fran's being three games over .500 over six years at UNCG. Patsos wasn't 0-24 in guarantee games because he played very few of them.
And Fran righted the ship after two down years, not three like Jimmy.
None of this means that Jimmy is not a viable candidate for the Siena job, but it does evidence why I am not convinced that he is clearly the best of the three apparent finalists, as you would have us believe.

Let's level the playing field. We'll disregard Jimmy's first year at Loyola and Fran's guarantee game losses at UNCG. I think you will find their winning percentages very similar. While taking over a program that was 1-27 the prior year is an unenviable task, the coach Fran followed, Randy Peele, was 26-59 over his final three seasons. To suggest that he walked into a pretty good situation basen on what his predecessor had done is hogwash, as you would know if you had bothered to check. If Jimmy gets the job, I will not be unhappy, as I have previously stated. I just happen to think the other candidates are better. And, for what it's worth, I heard late this afternoon that an announcement on the selection could come as early as tomorrow. If that were to happen, I think it points to Toole, given that the other two were only here today and in effect shared the day with D'Arg and the others involved. There has been much more time for post-interview due diligence on Toole since he was here last Thursday.

Thanks, KS. I agree completely with your assessment re all 3 gentlemen, including Toole being the best. Hopefully we'll get the announcement tomorrow and move ahead on all fronts (including the A-10 and players).

Impressive. i posted the same link earlier yesterday. Knows how to coach pt guards, confident, recruits well, has coached both the offense and defense at VCU. I don't see this guy pulling the nonsense Patsos did against Davidson. This guy believes he can beat anybody. If he's not the HC here, he'll be a good one for some other program.

I don't post much anymore. Truthfully, I could barely pay attention to this past season it was so discouraging. That said, I have been reading the board more in the last two weeks than since the early Fran days. I'm excited again about Siena hoops. I mean -- how cool is it to KNOW that we have three coaching choices that are going to bring energy, excitement and wins back to the T-U no matter what the selection? Very cool.

I think this is how the vast majority of long time Siena fans feel. I feel like a freakin' little kid I'm so excited AND relieved that we have three excellent choices. It's been a long time since I've have been this optimistic, it's been a hard three years for us all. I seems longer, doesn't it. It will be great to have everyone (most) here talking and debating on a more positive level, things we can feel good about with the team, instead of being pissed off all the time because of M and the past three years. Thank you to many of our regular posters that have given us so much valuable info over the last several weeks . (as you always do)

Agree ... I'm so exited that I'm coming up from Virginia to attend the EOY banquet to show my support to the new coach and team ... Others should consider to do the same.
