No surprise nor the company that Carm and Siena want to keep: www.coachesdatabase.com/college-basketball-hot-seat-report/. THIS SEAT IS RATHER WARM These coaches need to start winning right now, but that may not even be enough… Carmen Maciariello (Siena) Carm’s tenure at Siena started strong, winning 20 games and a MAAC title in his first year and repeating as MAAC champs the following year on the shortened schedule. But since then, the Saints have completely fallen off to the point where this year’s squad is one of the worst in all of college basketball. He is reportedly under contract through the 2025-26 season, but things are bad enough in Loundonville that a change could very well be made this March. UPDATE: The Saints are just 3-15 (2-4 MAAC) and have been living at 350+ (out of 362) in KenPom for weeks now. Siena also got smoked at home by Albany 86-51, the largest margin of victory in the history of their long rivalry, and also got destroyed by their other rival, St. Bonaventure, 89-56. The saving grace for Carm is that Siena may not want to (or be able to) pay a buyout right now. And things have only gotten worse since this was published.

It certainly has been a tough winter in Loudonville and no one is pleased with the current state of Siena Men's hoop. There seems to be a lot more going on behind closed doors then we see on the court. But March is right around the corner and we would have to think somethings will start to change.
Did Siena have an assistant AD spot open? Maybe that will be filled.
My guess is we will see two new assistants and a overhaul of the roster (player choice and coaches choice).
March will be an interesting month!

Assistants aren't the problem. The head coach is. If swapping assistants makes a big difference then it is a temporary change that will revert to the norm once that guy moves on.

Agreed on Bobby but that's ultimately on Carm. As a head coach you can farm out the legwork but the final call is on you. Recruiting is a strategic decision. If the CEO punts to an underling and it goes bad, it is still on the CEO. If Carm didn't agree with Bobby's assessments then he should act accordingly. Clearly he was OK with it. That's a clear indication that he's not head coach material.

Why would you retain a coach that is having the worst season in D1 history? Retain Antoni Wyche and get rid of the rest.

Here’s something I wonder has a D1 coach ever won 5 games or less in his fifth season (or later) who never made the NCAA Tournament and survived to come back? I would genuinely be interested if that ever happened.
I’d guess yes only because it seems someone had to do it with all these teams and all these years.

John Dunne at St Peter's went 5-26 in his 6th season but he had made the NCAA Tournament the year before. Jack Armstrong at Niagara went 5-25 in his 6th season after going 6-24 the year before and somehow got 3 more years. He never made an NCAA Tournament. Jim Phelan at Mt St Mary's went 3-24 in his 14th season and got one more year. He had made it to two NCAA Tournaments. I only checked the current MAAC teams and Loyola and was actually surprised how few MAAC teams have finished a season with 5 wins or less. The few other ones I didn't mention were either early in a coach's career or was the last year for that coach.

It happens often, Carm’s here next year so we all just better accept that fact and plan accordingly. He’s got work to do replacing assistants and a team, next year we’ll see what he’s made of. Ughhhhhh the thought of that is nauseating.

I did suggest to D'Arg that if they bring Carm back that season tix should be offered at a 50% discount, at least acknowledging that the product on the floor has been sub-par. I highly doubt they do that as it would be a significant hit to revenue. That said, I think they're going to lose a LOT of season ticketholders if they don't do something. I'm certainly not keeping my seats if Carm is back. It's only 2 seats, but I'm not alone. I also noted to John that while he's probably heard from many, there are many that are simply indifferent at this point. That's actually worse than a fan being pissed. An angry fan is still engaged.

I’m counting on non-renewals to open up better seats for next season … if that doesn’t work out probably won’t renew
