another interesting tidbit, Deane lost a recruiting battle for Bobby Sura (from PA), who was pretty much set to come to Siena in 1991 when Pat Kennedy swayed him away to Florida St at the last moment..........Sura went on to score 2000+ pts as a Seminole, played alongside Same Cassell and Charlie Ward.............Sura also played 10 yrs in the NBA as well...............

Back then the little guys could steal some serious talent. Because of AAU, social media etc.....there are no more secrets. Sura was from Wilkes-Barre, Pa and we did have a great shot with him, but an article featuring him in the USA Today got Kennedys attention down in Tallahassee. And I'm sure he had no problem sticking it to Siena one more time either!

Doremus was the only player from 1977 to present to be named MVP of the NIT tournament not from the team that won the tournament.

It is certainly far more difficult but not far removed from Hasbrouck falling on our lap with no offers and then of course Pickett who was mind-bogglingly underrecruited. Even Eley is an incredible talent that had film out there and no one else apparently wanted. There are still diamonds in the rough but can't have one assistant shooting down those diamonds that the others find. That is a toxic situation that leads to, well this.....

Just hard to believe but yes this team the worst by far and probably would be behind most of the d2 teams too.
