The true mid-majors that have made the final four recently really did not have much of an NCAA tournament history before the season of their deep run.
FAU before this year had only made the NCAA tournament once (2002) and had no wins.
Loyola Chicago in 2018 had not made the NCAA tournament since 1985.
George Mason in 2006 had only made the NCAA tournament once before and never won an NCAA game.
VCU in 2011 had won games in the dance but never had been past the Round of 32.
Just get in the dance, play well and get some breaks and anything can happen.
I still wonder if Siena had beaten Louisville that they might have made the final four.

Remember when Boeheim got a little crazy midseason and spouted off that ACC rivals, "Pitt, WF and Miami bought their teams with NIL money!"
The Miami guard Pack (#24) transferred in for a $800,000 NIL deal. Guess it pays to pay players!
Hopefully this process gets revamped/revised where it isnt so blatant.
NIL is how things will be down from now on. Its pay to play for "amatuer" athletics.

If fau wins the championship it is definitely time to expand the tournament to ensure the champion is in the field. Humans are doing such a poor job at picking and seeding the field that there at least needs to be safety in numbers.

Before you know it teams in mid-major conferences will realize NIL$ can make it much easier to get to the Big Dance & one team can hijack the conference if its pockets are deep enough Time to consider going the way of football splitting bball into Div I & Div IA delineation being a NIL (salary) cap for IA … of course CBS won’t like it because with no Cinderellas the ratings would drop

Anyone think Pitino took that St Johns job without knowing he'd have a war chest of at least $5M at his disposal?? He's always ahead of the curve, and knows what it takes TODAY to compete at the highest level.
NIL money, and lots of it.

Why do you say that? We are witnessing one of the most competitive tournaments of all time with NIL in place. The big schools will pay the big bucks for the top guys like they've always done, just now it is legal. There has been no indication so far that these programs are going to pay guys 6 through 13 the big bucks to keep them. The programs that have been playing it by the book can at least now throw some money around to potentially retain guys. I have to assume that is why none of the Siena guys are in the portal yet, there is likely work going on behind to scenes to try and get some NIL money together to keep them.

IMO … NIL is in its infancy … eventually the big dollars will filter down to smaller schools (e.g Quinnipiac) … outcome it will cause more imbalance among conference teams … a signing bonus can soon become part or the recruiting process … I hope I’m wrong

Siena has the biggest fan base in the MAAC anyway. They should be the MAAC team “buying” players.
