I have been a high school coach in this area for over 20 years. I know some people very close to Tobin, and am also friends with a coach on his staff. This comes from very reliable people. I also know people from Iona that are involved in this situation. The interest is definitely mutual. If it doesn’t work out, it would be because Iona shorts him on his assistant coach budgets, which he wasn’t happy about in their initial discussion. But I’m sure they will come around, and a salary in the 600k range would triple his salary. Thankyou for your input and explanation. I am relatively well connected in the Section 1, Section 9, and CHSAA area. More so section 1 and 9 these days. But down here this is not a secret. I was up at states in Glens Falls this weekend, but I have family that was at the CYO Championships at Holy Child in Rye this week. Even they said the talk of the day was about Tobin going to Iona. If he doesn’t end up there I would strongly guess it would be because a better job comes along, or they don’t pony up for his assistants. |

But shouldnt he have some loyalty to FDU? No one else gave him a D-1 shot, but they did. Do the FDU fans get as upset as the Iona fans are with Pitino? lol I get its a business, and I wouldnt fault him for taking advantage of a huge NCAA tourney upset. BUT, I do feel for those FDU fans. The NEC is a disaster. A program (St. Francis Brooklyn) just discontinued their entire athletic department. Give FDU credit but Purdue maybe played the worst game for a 1 seed against a 16 seed in NCAA tournament history. When UMBC beat UVA they just made every shot. Tobin should absolutely look to get out. As far as Siena/Tobin goes maybe they could have hired him when Patsos was fired. He wasn’t going to get it when Mitch got fired because he was on the staff. When JC left Carm was getting the job they just didn’t expect it to be that quick. Not giving up on Carm. He has his issues he’s also been incredibly unlucky with CV and Pitino. Siena needs to get back to the NCAAs now. Carm’s woes have zero to do with Covid and Pitino. Carm’s struggles are basically due to Carm. He’s stubborn. I was all in with his hire but the more I’m seeing the more doubts Im starting to have. I’m eagerly waiting to see what the next class looks like. I have a sneaky feeling it’s going to dictate the direction this program takes. Everyone was impacted by CV, & we have no idea how the CV tournament year would have played out. As far as Pitino goes he did a good job, but Iona didn’t accomplish anything under Pitino that they already didn’t accomplish under multiple coaches. There’s nothing no excuse there. That’s pretty much a cop out take Mike. This program is full of excuses why we’ve been mediocre for a decade and a half. |

Congrats Tobin….now you’re going down lol But give Iona credit to acting quickly would’ve taken D’Arg at least two weeks to find a coach. Hopefully Iona still gets raided. |

Excellent hire by Iona. He will keep them at the top of MAAC and continue challenge the rest of the league to keep up. Carm and group have lots of work to do to return Siena to a similar level. Going to be an interesting off season and recruiting period.

Iona seemingly always has a plan - identify talent before the current coach moves up or is terminated, act fast and sign the contract. Siena has D'Argenio and the search turns into a fiasco. There's a reason the streak is 13 and counting.
