He's gone, who does Iona get? Tobin Anderson is the hot name. Family has lived in Westchester for a long time (still does), so taking over Iona while the iron is hot isnt a bad idea for him.....or Iona. Can MTS please go on the Iona board and say, "Sup?"

Bahaha Iona fans flipping out. I'm laughing my ass off reading thier board, talk about delusional ass clowns. Tobin would be great hire, I'd prefer they get Greeceball Grasso. But thier roster is going to be decimated over next few weeks. Pitino will take any gal that will help him next year. He took his entire staff with him to St Johns

My guess he takes 5-7 players with him Clayton Nelly Shema Sunday Davis Ibine-Ayo Jenkins can play, but would have to sit out a year. He's be 50/50 IMO. Might be a good time for him to pick a school closer to home if he has to sit.

President of St John’s usually says a few masses on Sunday at my Siena roommates parish in Garden City … he announced he had to rush back to campus because he was working on an important matter … wonder what it was 😂

His Iona players won't help at SJU. Did you see how they did vs UConn? While Iona had MAAC+ level players, they aren't Big East caliber talent. He may need a few guys if a bunch of SJU players hit the portal but then why would they with a HoF coach coming in? I could see him taking 1 or 2 guys like Fran did when he left Siena but 6? I wouldn't be happy as an SJU fan.

Clatyon is for sure a Big East level (skills, size, athleticism) guard and I think a few of their other players will be just fine playing at that level if they decide to go with him. He will not have trouble attracting talent to SJU.

Pretty sure Pitino will be fine, he’ll keep the important kids at SJ, pinch a few from Iona & hit the portal.
Iona will land on their feet. I don’t anticipate a bad hire, nor a big drop. They’ll lose players but with the portal and a good coach you can almost compensate immediately. If it’s Tobin he’s an excellent coach and recruiter. Carm will have his hands full with him. He took a 4 win FDU team with a few older D2 kids, and by seasons end he was in position as a runner up to back into the tournament (per NCAA rules) & achieved 2 NCAA wins with one being against a 1 seed.
Hell that’s more than we’ve done in near a decade and half 😕 & Tobin accomplished it in one season with arguably the worst D1 team in the country from the prior season. That’s just flat out impressive!
It’ll be interesting to see who they end up hiring, I still think Tobin may draw hire interest.

Esp once Repole gets that potent NIL going. Big Apple, MSG, a healthy NIL and Pitino will draw good talent to SJU. And with UCONN having a good run with Hurley and hopefully Providence getting a good coach there, as well as Villanova, a good Big East is good for college hoops.

The big east has always been underrated, as the pundits get confused by the football schools. St. John's was the first college basketball team I rooted for with my dad, in the carnasecca days. That was back when they were every bit as good as Duke. I'm looking forward to their return to prominence on the basketball scene.

I wouldn't be happy as an SJU fan. So you wouldnt bring 2 big seniors you coached (Nelly and Shema) for your first year? A transition year for sure, where having some familiar faces around would be beneficial. Clayton and Jenkins can certainly play at the BE level. And I really liked how the freshman Abine-Ayo and Sunday finished their freshman years. Both have a lot of potential. Nelly, Shema and Jenkins all graduate in '24 and of you dont like AA and Sundays progress, they move back down to the MM level. They're both NYC kids, and that is important to Pitino and what hes trying to do there. Re-connect with NYC basketball powers. The Molloys, CTK, Cardinal Hayes, LuHi Lincoln and Our Saviour Lutheran. St Johns needs to keep NYC talent in house. Will be a key to his success.
