Does this mean they finally have enough beds for all the students?
On a serious note though, this is bullshit.
What, athletes don't receive enough preferential treatment? Now they get a library of their own?

Might as well fill it up with ping pong tables cuz they sure don't need it for three month athletes

Now they get a library of their own? What āpreferential treatmentā do Siena student-athletes receive? Other than a scholarship (and most of Sienaās student-athletes donāt get anything close to full scholarships), I canāt think of anything, but I may be overlooking some obvious perks.

"Tons" of what? And there are plenty of student-athletes on campus who aren't basketball players. What preferential treatment do any of them receive? And what preferential treatment do the basketball players receive? When I was at Siena, we got to register for classes before the rest of the student body, but only when our sport was in season. That was the only preferential treatment for student-athletes back then.

Registering first is understandable given the need to accommodate workouts and practices, but I think the better question is why should there be a separate library?
Where is this even going?

Registering first also allowed them to get the easy professors who loves basketball. Unlimited time to take test and there was no learning issue. I had a player ask me to put his name on a group project when he wasnāt in the group - he said the guy who was suppose to write the paper for him and another player didnāt get it done. While I listened to the game the night before while finishing the paper the redshirted player was at the mouse trap watching it. Many other examples

Many other examples I don't consider any of that preferential treatment. I consider it cheating. And does any of that apply to tennis players at the school, volleyball players, baseball players, etc?

All students should have the same access to all resources.

Seriously, this is the kind of largesse that makes me scoff at the notion that colleges are losing money and therefore they have to increase tuition by 10% each year. A building that can't be used by the general population? What good purpose is that. They already have access to academic advisors that the gen pop doesn't get, preferred placement in classes, priority access to athletic facilities..: I'm not feeling this one.

Colleges now use sports to raise money ā¦ you see where this has gotten the state of college athletics to be now ā¦ some fans & alums only donate to athletic related projectsā¦ building this āathleteās caveā is a recruitment tool ā¦ the cycle continues: better recruiting, better teams, more money: trickle down college economics at its best.

It will be interesting to see how it is actually used. If entrance is restricted to athletes, the "work on group projects" element is questionable as it would exclude the other 90% of the student body resulting in the athletes actually doing group work as done today. Someone referred to this as a "library" - I doubt the resources, i.e., books, etc., available in the main library would be duplicated here. As '71 said, a recruitment tool...

Sure, a recruitment tool, I get that, but again what good is this going to do for the school. Is isolating the athletes from the rest of the student body going to be a draw for the 90% of the students who won't get to use it? This is a small school, the draw is to go to a school where you can hang with good athletes. if the goal is to simply have a better team the money would be better spent for a bigger recruitment budget, travel budget, coaching budget ie get to the a10. Sorry, this just doesn't make sense.
