I guess I don’t see what the controversy is about this.

Sounds exclusionary. Does this happen any other place on campus?

Sounds exclusionary. Does this happen any other place on campus? I agree, but how is this “exclusionary” any different than say the ARC hard wood floors are for student athletes whereas the rubber floor of the area build afterwards is for students. The athletes now also have access to their own weight room where they had to share it with others in the old days. Why can’t the athletes also have their own separate study area where it’s closer to their weight room, coaches and sometimes practice courts? I guess I don’t understand the big exclusively issue here. Besides most of the funding, I assume, was from private donations. If it was revealed that 100% of the funding came from Siena’s general fund then I’d maybe agree with others on this. I read that one donor contributed $250k and they named it a free them. That’s 1/4th the total eat cost so as long as most of the rest of the $750k came from donations; I have no problem/issue with this at all. If the teachers/admin want new things for the general student population then they could sponsor similar fund raisers for those “things”. Then people could decide to donate a specific amount to have more desks, buildings, computers, library sections, etc named after them. Hey, more power to the athletic dept if they can “sell” these ideas to donors; IMO. It seems to be working.

What, team managers couldn't do their homework for them in the existing library?

However, ongoing maintenance, upkeep, utiities, insurance and probably staffing would be a college expenditure that would ultimatey be borne by the student body. How do you sell that idea to them?

It's 2,200 square feet, so they are basically building an expensive, ugly frat house on scarce campus space that apparently heretofore was used by the entire student body, not 10%. It just sends a message that they care more about the academic success of the athletes more than the rest of the student body. And, it's unnecessary given the small campus and accessible academic services. Terrible idea, sorry.

Ok, I guess that I’m in the minority on this topic.
I don’t see the harm in it.
