Ouch! I always hate to lose any player to the portal, and was totally blindsided by this announcement! However, in the real world of 2020 college basketball, kid after kid jumps into the portal. That reality makes me appreciate Jalen all the more. He committed to Siena, he promotes Siena, and he represents Siena. As for Don Carey, have to join others in wishing him the best, just wish we got a chance to see more of him.

Any odds on him reuniting with JC? Doubt it. GW won’t be at the dance next March ... Don will only set his eyes on teams that will most likely get a bid.

Ouch. Carm is a grinder he will find a suitable replacement. Not a game changer.

I thought JC had to run off Walker to make room for kid from LSU. Thought he was out of ships You know how that goes, you don’t have any left until miraculously you do, who knows what’s going on at GW and if someone there decides to walk. My guess is Carey didn’t make the decision in a vacuum. I agree I just don’t know why it has to be JC when he has had him twice as a coach and he walked out on him. Lots of connections in the DMV and options

I’m assuming there will be someone in the pipeline for Siena! Ivy League? 😜

If the staff had any inkling that Carey was taking extra courses to put himself in a position to graduate early it makes the signing of 3 bigs (2 of which are ineligible until next year) even more strange. You think we would have been on an eligible guard just in case he walked. If nothing changes I guess King definitely benefits from the move from a bench perspective and Carpenter to start. As a result I guess the bench depth takes a bit of hit here too.

I’m still not sure I want Tate to play as a guard. Carpenter plays 35 a game now.

The rationale behind this decision is odd.
Don had to have led the team in turnovers. Poor court vision led to some real poor passes.
He came into his own shooting at the end of the season.
Weird decision.

Weird decision. Whomever recruits him is probably gonna want him as a combo guard. He’s risky to rely on him as your primary PG. A coach may tell him what he wants to hear but have him back at SG nonetheless.

Weird decision. Yeah - It's kind of a head scratcher. You never know what a kid wants or is feeling. I would have thought he was happy here, but remember he really only came here to follow Christian. But good for him - he's getting his diploma and has a chance to get his masters for free. Sounds like a smart kid.

I was actually expecting Harris Jr to be the one that would transfer with the three headed guard lineup in front of him. Now that Carey is gone Harris can start and King can go from deep on the bench to first guard off the bench. This is going to hurt in the short run for sure but it is going to be great for the development of those two and if they step up the loss won't hurt as much. Will certainly help recruiting a top guard for 2021-2022. Was a tough sell with Pickett, Carey, and Carpenter all potentially back.
For Carey it is great assuming he's doing this with a free Masters in mind. Downside is if he can't find a school willing to take him on this late but I have to assume he's got some assurances elsewhere.

If he's looking for a team that has a good shot to make the NCAA tournament AND that would be relying on him with the ball in his hands. Those two expectations don't really go together, no offense.

I'd take him and say there was even a chance he ended up an upgrade from a team standpoint...in spite of the height difference. He's also a Business Admin. Major. Carm should definitely call this kid. Better A/TO, better FT shooter, better rebounder in spite of size, slightly better ballhawk, better per min point output, better 2pt FG%, practically same career 3pt %, ....higher TS% upside....and Belmont was 109 in Kenpom last year. Say, here kid, you just doubled your minutes and you still may go to the NCAAs. I'd feel as good if not better with a lineup of Pickett, Hopkins, Carpenter, Camper.... Make the deal Carm. Call him now.
