That sucks...Don played great down the stretch.
Why now though?

Wow, that hurts. Maybe the rub I’d been talking about last season lingers.

Well, that explains some of the weird chemistry throughout the season. He always knew he was leaving, and I'm sure the team had at least a clue as well.
Personal feelings aside, this was actually a really smart way for Carey to deal with the pretty shitty hand he was dealt with Jamion leaving one year after he followed him to Siena. Doesn't lose any eligibility, and gets his pick of schools now. He gave us a good year and I wish the young man the best.
On the positive side, it sounds like Carm was at least aware of this possibility so I am assuming he is fully prepared with a contingency plan. May be a shock to the fans, but at least coaching staff appear to have known, so we can assume they are comfortable with the guards they have in place/in the pipeline. Certainly does raise the stakes/opportunity for Carpenter.

Wow, I didn't really see this one coming this year. But I think we all knew he was a good bet to grad transfer eventually, just didn't expect it this summer. Hope he finds a spot where he can play a little more point guard and try his hand at that!
Gear up Aidan and Jordan King -- it's your time now.
Pickett/Carpenter/Harris/Camper/Curry starts the year, we slot in Tate for Curry or Harris when he's eligible. King, Young, Golson as your three key bench guys in addition to that core six. And with a spot open maybe there's a guard out there we could grab for depth. Wish we had known sooner.

Carm's quote makes it sound like he has known since day one that Carey was a short-term rental though. I find this encouraging because it means the coaching staff has had ample time to plan around his departure. I wish we had him, but I'm not going to panic too much because I trust that the coaches are already prepared moving forward.

In today’s game the head coach always knows how close his upperclassman are to graduating. Once Carey took this last class, I’m hoping Carm has been recruiting as such. Wish Don told him he was leaving if he passed this class, that way we could have a game plan this late to fall back on. I think everyone figured he’d leave after his junior year. Just not his sophomore year. This reminds me of the Cremo situation at UA kind of sneaking out of town.

Kid was going to get 25+ minutes per game, huge loss. Can’t sugar coat this, it hurts us. Hope Carm & staff had a “heads-up” & have an alternative plan in place.
I’m guessing we see Don reunited with JC @ GW.

Sounds like Don wanted to play PG. That wasn’t going to happen with Jalen at Siena.
It still stinks but it makes more sense. Wish it was done earlier though. Hopefully Carm can get a good guard for some depth on short notice!

I thought JC had to run off Walker to make room for kid from LSU. Thought he was out of ships

I thought JC had to run off Walker to make room for kid from LSU. Thought he was out of ships You know how that goes, you don’t have any left until miraculously you do, who knows what’s going on at GW and if someone there decides to walk. My guess is Carey didn’t make the decision in a vacuum.
