Retiring the AD would be a gift for him!The man has been around 50-50 with his hires and some of those border on incompetence especially with the group of candidates that were clamoring for those positions. It's obvious you're friendly with the AD but this is not about friendship but incompetence.A man who literally destroyed a very good basketball program and if not for the catholic values he woulda, coulda, shoulda been sent packing a long time ago!GO SAINTS!! AMEN! Basketball team wins in spite of the AD. Incompetence coupled with arrogance is a pretty bad combo. Should have been ousted many years ago. How the heck did he survive 10 years of DRECK and now this?!?!?!! Man is an embarrassment. Where was this team 10 years pre and post fran? Mediocrity....in this conference, with these facilities, at this great school. Yes, AD of this team is a job like Goodell and the NFL. set up for success. His hires have been about 1 for 3 at best . For a program cherished by many.

I have not always seen eye to eye with D’Arg, but the decision to hire Mitch and Jimmy came from Siena Hall, not the AD’s office. Who’s job was it to supervise Patsos? This was not one isolated incident. Their is now a series of reported unacceptable behavior over multi years under John’s watch. If John is saying he didn’t know he should be dismissed. If he did know he should be dismissed. That is a different question, Siena88. What neither of us knows is the extent to which D’Arg became aware of information which would cause an AD to ask questions about a coach’s behavior and what he attempted to do about it if anything. And for those who say he should have resigned rather than follow the direction he was given to hire first Mitch and then Jimmy, talk is cheap. How many individuals on this board would have done so and started filing for unemployment benefits, which probably would have been denied? There was a chance, however small, that either of those two coaches could have been successful. And self-preservation is a great motivator.

And shame on Siena admin for pulling these shenanigans with key hires. Kinda reminds me of a meddling owner of a pro sports franchise... So one of 2 things here: Either they didn’t have faith in or value the opinion of the AD, who in theory one would think would be a key part of the hiring process. Or the AD didn’t command that type of respect. Maybe he’s the type of person to just go along to get along...will do anything he’s told, just keep them paychecks coming. Either way, look at the disastrous results...look at the carnage, the wasted time and wasted years. I’m mostly just sad that something truly great was lost instead of the door being answered when opportunities came a knocking.

BS - so he gets credit for the coaches that work out, but no blame for the ones that don’t? And who’s job was it to supervise JP as he was pulling all these shenanigans? Further, isn’t it his job to run the athletic department? Now you say others are making hiring decisions for key positions in his department without him having a say? Why didn’t he speak up? Why don’t he object if he was not on board? Why didn’t he grow a spine and throw down an ultimatum that if u make this hire without my approval, you can find urself a new AD? I don’t buy it, and even if it’s true what does that really say about the character of the guy? I guess he’s good at asking formoney....how much? MORE What world do you live? I don't have a horse in this race but you make it sound so simple. The real world isn't that simplistic. He's going to give ultimatums? Yeah, that would be the smart thing to do.

In the report it states that he didn't know as evidenced by patsos stating he didn't check with the compliance staff, which makes sense... patsos was doing weird stuff all the time... how was he supposed to know the players were getting extra money. Same thing with the rides. It seems like compliance is important to the ad based on the compliance education letters he sends out each quarter or so. Hmmmmm....how would u know...oh I don’t know...really got me stumped here...now how would one go about learning something like that...wild guess here: HOW ABOUT YOU DO YOUR DAMN JOB AND ASK?!?? You show some F’n leadership and you get to the bottom of this crap!! You’d think if you’ve been in a position for like 40 years you’d learn a thing or 2 along the way. The only way a person in that position wouldn’t know what was going on under his own nose is either he was incompetent or he was complicit. . I know I'm not the cool guy here, but ask what? "Hey joe, did jimmy happen to give you $100 a month ago?" As far as being complicit, The report said that he didn't know. I'm sure patsos would have thrown him under the bus if given the chance, remember how quick he was to blame everyone but himself after each loss? That tells me John didn'tt know. He is the ad over 30 sports or so, not just b-ball. Based on 10 previous years in the same league John had no reason to believe he was a cheater, (really not even a cheater, just a fool), thus no reason to ask the kind of questions you think he should have been asking. This thing could be over soon, but too bad you are continuing to put a cloud of uncertainty over the basketball program at a time when we could be enjoying a long overdue period of success.

I guess I would ask how we know the decision to hire came from ‘Siena Hall’? Saying Darg is not much more than a figurehead?
As far as not knowing what Jimmy was up to....I suppose that is very possible. IF the source of the money came directly from Jimmy, which is possible considering how much he makes. But we already know there were issues in per diems. For how long? THAT should be on the AD.

The president who was responsible for those two coaching hires was replaced. John is responsible for leading and supervising the athletic department. Once the decision was made to hire Patsos, John should have been sure he knew what was going on with the program including the boosters. The Siena athletic department has only one program that could tarnish the Siena brand and under John’s leadership that happened. If he claims he didn’t know this and all the previous documented issue’s were going on for several years he should be dismissed. If he did know he should be dismissed. This is not one incident under John it is a pattern. This is the first test of the new presidents leadership.

There was ZERO chance Mitch would succeed. His track record followed by just speaking to him. I told D'Arg that would go down as the worst hire in siena basketball to his face and he laughed about it. To this date... its the worst by far. It set the table for the desperation that saw the eventual hire of Patsos. Mitch is NOT a head coach and how anyone with the checkbook thought otherwise brings their OWN JOB into serious question. I cancelled my season tickets of 18 years thanks to the hiring of mitch and didnt come back until this year.

I came back to the board to see if quiet reasoning to some degree had returned. Maybe a little. I am so tired of people yelling; candidates, ad persons on tv., posters on sports boards. Where has quiet reasoning gone. It's all in your face over the top reaction and yelling both in print as well as sound.

I was trying to make a point, good sir. Yes obviously was being over the top to illustrate. However I will say when you have morals, conviction, and courage, the world can be pretty simplistic. I understand shades of grey and blurred lines, but sometimes it really is as simple as right / wrong. It’s too bad that during a critical time in the programs history we didn’t have someone in that room who had more foresight and courage to do what they thought was right vs. the sh!t show that became of the program after Fran left. I don’t think it’s overstating it to say that with better leadership, planning, and decisive action, this program could have avoided the mountainous downward spiral.

In the big bad world of NCAA violations going on with the big boys, this stuff is akin to a parking violation.

I don’t know enough of all the details, over all these years, to say whether the AD should be fired, but to say he should have known about the small payments JP was making is crazy. For those of you that have people working for you, do you think any of them ever fudged an expense report for a few extra dollars? Should you be fired for not knowing? As for the A10 stuff, you all act like they were tripping over themselves and we were doing them a favor if we joined and DArg said we aren’t interested. The one thing I would criticize him for is giving JP a years buyout. With what was known at that point I would have told him to pound sand and sue us if he wanted a dime more.

There would be consequences. Would you blame yourself for them parking illegally? Because that is akin to blaming the AD for the coach not following the rules.
