en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Neubauerwww.ekusports.com/coaches.aspx?rc=336&path=mbballEveryone talks about Paulsen and Toole and they would be solid choices but I think EKU's Jeff Neubauer should get a good strong look too. I believe he interviewed for the job three years ago if I remember correctly? He knows the MAAC playing at LaSalle from 1989-1993. His overall record at EKU isn't spectacular but he's at a tough job battling with Murray State and Belmont in the OVC. EKU is averaging 74.2 PPG this season good for 35th in the nation. Also was an assistant at Richmond and West Virginia under John Beilein. Neubauer reminds me a lot of Fran at UNCG.

Newbauer's overall record at EKU is now 140-108 (including 22-6 this year). That is a markedly better winning percentage compared with Fran's before he got here. He is a Louisiana native but his wife is from NJ.

MTS, please pick a favorite or 3 and actually research them. You've named about 100 who should be "given serious looks". That's not going to happen and most of them aren't close to realistic.

Neubauer would be a mediocre hire. Need to do better.

Neubauer would be a mediocre hire. Need to do better. Fran looked like a mediocre hire on paper too. I know I've jumped around on people. My top two choices remain Paulsen and Toole. But Neubauer is a very strong choice after them as is Cliff Warren. I didn't think Cherry would be someone to look at but researching it he's at a historically tough place to win it and his team scores points. Having an offensive coach is a MUST for the next guy. In three weeks we'll start hearing the names in the media officially - many discussed here and probably a few new ones too. I can't give out my list of 10 until I find out what coaches are actually in the mix at Siena.

Way back when we started discussing it, someone asked for eveyones top 3. I listed Richard Pitino, Scott Cherry, and Jason Capel. Those are my 3 favorites. However, I don't think Pitino will be interested and I'm 99%positive Scott Cherry isn't interested. That may change if Siena announces a league change.

He'd be nuts not to run to the Siena job if Siena offered him. High Point vs Siena - hmmm? Siena is the best job he'll ever get from that league unless he wants to retire there.

Scott Cherry has lived in the south for over half his life. His wife is from Virginia. I am friends with a cousin of his. I'm almost positive he'd rather wait for another opening unless Siena shows a desire to upgrade the program.

Oh, and as for "the best job he'll get from that league", Gregg Marshall got the Wichita State job from the Big South.

Oh, and as for "the best job he'll get from that league", Gregg Marshall got the Wichita State job from the Big South. Marshall went to the NCAAs like 8 out of 10 years and won an NCAA game. He is a great coach. Cherry I'm sure is a good coach too but is under .500. I suppose he could stay at High Point and build it up but right now and for the foreseeable future Siena would be as good as it gets for him (and that's pretty good). But family considerations do play a part sure. I don't know who Siena will get but I'm pretty confident it will be another D1 head coach. Just like back in 2005 the program can't afford to gamble.

See, you make blanket statements with no basis that you try to make sound like facts, then backtrack when you're called on it. Everyone has an opinion and that's great. If people stated their opinions as opinions, there would be a lot less seeing and more intelligent discussion.

I'll bet we could easily round up 25 volunteers from this group to help Mitch move out of his house and office and see him off.
