I'd guess after George Mason Siena will next in line for a invite to A10..Not sure how much longer Umass will be in A10 as they are rumored to be going to football big east schools If UMass bolts from the A10 who would be next to be invited (if Siena was already in the new A10)? Iona, Fairfield? Or move St. Joes to the North division and try and get Davidson into the south? Sooo many dominos and moving pieces. I think one thing is certain - the lower mid majors (MAAC, CAA, Southern) are going to be raided. Can you imagine if we stay in the MAAC and FF and/or Iona move out. Scary. Siena will be 1st team offered in MAAC-- whether they accept or not is another story.. but anyway if Umass goes that leaves 8 teams A10 adds Siena and George Mason for now and they have a nice 10 team conference

ajerseyguy.com/?p=5238This writer has the Catholic league only being 10 teams (Butler-Xavier and either Richmond or Creighton). If so the A10 would not have to add anyone as they would still be at 12 or 11 (and probably add George Mason). Who knows how this will play out in the end - nothing is final until it is final. All Siena can do is focus on getting the best coach they can going forward and getting better!

I'd be thrilled with that conference-- it would still raise the profile of Siena athletics and give it a fighting chance of an at large bid. Plus, more games against top notch schools and the opportunity to advance if another opening comes up down the road (ala Butler). Siena will go nowhere if it stays in the MMAC. Twenty five years from now, I'll be talking to Ronald Moore at the alumni game --"remember when you hit those two shots and Rafferty said "onions, double order!" -- That was the last great moment in Siena hoops!"

I was looking at the A10 blogs most have- Siena, VCU, George Mason, Detroit, Davidson, Mercy, and Fairfield as the favorites. And splitting the A10 into two divisions. The A10 would have: SOUTH 1. VCU 2. GW 3. George Mason 4. Lasalle 5. St Joes 6. Charlotte NORTH 7. Fordham 8. Umass 9. Duquesne 10. St Bona 11. Rhode Island 12 Siena

You need one more team. Charlotte is going to CUSA. And you might need one more as well, as UMass is potential Big East less C7 material. The answer could be Davidson and Charleston, which has already accepted an invite to move from the Southern Conference to the CAA. Then you could more LaSalle and St. Joe's to the North division. if you want to stay more compact geographically, how about Northeastern and Fairfield? That would involve splitting the Philly schools, however.

That makes sense geographically, but is really top heavy:
VCU -- one final four GW--one sweet sixteen GM--one final four LS--one national championship SJ--one final four Duquesne--one final four
Compared to:
FU-- one sweet sixteen NU--zero sweet sixteen Fair--zero sweet sixteen St.B-- one final four RI--one sweet sixteen Siena-- zero sweet sixteen
To recap, that's one national championship, four final fours and a sweet sixteen (only represents highest levels achieved) for the South compared to one final four and two sweet sixteens for the South.

Do you realize that travel in the Catholic7 would actually be easier than the A10 with an Eastern Division of Nova,Gtown,SJU, Seton Hall,Providence and Siena? Easier even than the MAAC is right now when you consider the trips to WNY. Plus the benefit of a major airport with non-stops to Chicago and Milwaukee. Contrast that with Richmond- Do you know what a bear it is to get from NYC and PHL, even DC to Richmond. Don't think that ease of travel isn't a significant part pf the equation. I think you are selling short what Siena and Albany bring to the table: 1)Albany is a really good college basketball town. Good support for both Albany and Siena, and Siena has a great facility where they would no doubt average 10,000 plus as long as they were competitive on the court. 2) Siena is a good cultural fit with the others- Catholic for starters. But also runs a program where players actually graduate. And overall academics are probably middle of the pack- better than some:SJU and Seton Hall/not as good as others:Nova,Gtown and Providence.3)Albany is vibrant economically and has good growth prospects. I think Siena is far more attractive to the Catholic7 than we realize- simply because we have been small for so long and we see ourself that way. And to join former Big East schools seems like a quantum leap. But if the commitment is there to make the leap - meaning a major upfront investments of $$$- it can be done.the endowment is about $130MM. I remember when G'town joined the Big East I don't think they had a winning season in 10 years and played in a gym that held 3000 at most. A few years later they hired JT and the rest is history. Siena is in a great situation with some very good possibilities: A10, C7 Or staying put in the MAAC. My guess is that they will shoot higher than the MAAC at this point and it sure has been fun to speculate in an otherwise dismal season. Thank you John Feinstein!

Good post phillyfan and I agree. Especially the part about getting to Richmond-- I've done that and it is not fun! It is just that it appears that the Catholic 7 does not want us. Their loss. :-)

Phillyfan, you've got to be joking about UAlbany's fan support. No better than the 9 other teams in the MAAC. Fairfield just had over 3,000 for the first time in many moons.
