brg-my thoughts are as you suggest Siena stay put a new coach if successful would be out of here in 3-5 years. He would be taking over a BCS team coming off a few losing seasons as Fran just did. If Siena were to join the C7 or the A10 this new coach would probably stay on for a long stretch. Siena is going to have to pay the next coach a very good salary. Naturally, a string of losing seasons and he'd be toast.

It's a workable model. its a workable model with a strong AD-- style never changes at Xavier VCU , Butler no matter who the coach is-- that's because they have strong AD's.. can you imagine the program wrecker at one of those schools- he would have been fired for sure after first year. At Siena every new coach brings in his own style no matter how bad it is ( see Beyer Lanier and Mitch ) that style will never be consistent

You guys obsessed with throwing salaries for the new coach around remind me of the government. If and when a serious contender for the position commands the bucks then pay it. But to just throw these salaries around is crazy. You may be able to get that up and comer for a lesser salary and incentives. Geez cmon here, if they perform to expectations or beyond they will make the dough, if not, then you can live pretty comfortably in Albany for 200-250K a year. I sure would make incentives for home, league, top 100 RPI and post season wins. Penalties for losses would be an incentive to. With this scenario I'd have Mitch writing Siena a check.

Hey guys - Fr. Kevin just responded to my email. He indicated the situation was fluid but that nobody from another conference has contacted the school. He indicated that if all options would be evaluated in terms of advancing the mission of the school. a) I believe him and take him at his word b) I'd like to think that maybe we reached out to another league but with D'Arg probably not c) It sounds like they'd be open to a change if it was presented
Here's hoping with my fingers crossed!

G'town President in Washington Post today: likely will consist of 12 members though may expand to 10 initially; essential criteria of schools that will be added - schools that put the student-athlete first, both in the classroom and on the playing field - school whose athletic departments are conducted with integrity - schools that play exceptional basketball

Assuming our current state of affairs is the downfall (actually a big assumption since it could be any number of things --enrollment, television market, budget, on campus facilities etc) expanding to 10 initially may slow the process down just enough to allow us to get our ducks in a row for future opportunities.

I know it’s been a miserable 3 years under Mitch but let’s try and stay positive. Any invite to C7 is probably a long shot, but if offered Siena HAS to look at it. Even if we don’t get offer to C7, Siena should be proactive in getting an invite to A10. Siena needs to stabilize the program and it’s time to get out of the MAAC , if Siena is serious about growing program to level they want
As for Fr Kevin- I also believe him, he is a good man

That last one is the nail Actually that might be the key - our play has been "exceptional" - exceptionally LOUSY! exactly. and when people discuss Siena they will indeed look at the last 3 years... and the 5 before it. And the four before that. RPI over the last 14 years (from Statsheet.com) 295 224 200 37 18 63 128 125 297 167 107 201 117 85 an average of 147.4 even if you throw out Mitch you come up with an average of 122.3 Siena has: 5 (36%)seasons ranked 200 or worse over the 14 year period 4 seasons ranked in the top 100 2 seasons in the top 50 some of that could be helped with a better league but you arent exactly going to have people beating down your door when your school bats .500 on coaches and sees the 200s as often as Siena has.

Those numbers look bad but our ceiling is higher than most candidates due to the fan base.
