Wow, to read this article it would appear that Siena has a 50/50 chance of joining a major conference. Just last week, an article by Espn with Katz didn't mention Siena:
"The Catholic 7 schools still must form a league, decide on a commissioner, bylaws, location, championships, compliance rules and how many schools they will add. They are expected to initially target Butler and Xavier out of the Atlantic 10, and possibly grow to 10 or 12 teams with candidates among Creighton, Dayton, Saint Louis, Richmond and VCU."

I'd be surprised if Siena got an invite to C7.. however I wouldn't be surprised at all if they got an invite to A10-- after George Mason Siena might be next in line..if they wanted to go. Even though Siena is by far the best program in the MAAC- we have too many up and downs. As been said many times Siena has all the advantages in the world when it comes to being a mid major. Maybe this time Siena finally learned their lesson..we shall see what kind of coach we go after. All I know is there was 4500 tops there last night- this Mitch debacle is going to end up costing the school a bundle

Siena's Board of Trustees should make it known that if afforded membership in the C7 it shall spend whatever resources are necessary to support first class athletic programs.
Membership in a national athletic conference would expand Siena's name recognition and its applicant pool, improve the quality of the incoming students which in turn would enhanse the academic profile as evidenced by its embarrassingly poor academic reputation reflected by its USNews ranking of #112 among those with whom it is classified. Basketball has aided the academic profile of Villanova, G'town and Providence and can also assist Siena.
Let's hope the administration attempts to seize this opportunity.

Gee, call me crazy but they might want to consider ENHANCING the academic profile by increasing the number of graduate programs from just 1.

Wow, I'm shocked. Feinstein is a serious college hoops writer and he must know something about this. If this actually turns into reality, I would be thrilled. Does Siena have the money to run a program at that level? If the G'town AD makes the call, how can you turn it down? It does make sense geographically if you are looking for a northeast school and you eliminate the schools in Philly - we are the only northeast school left with an arena that is a Big East-sized building. What would happen to the tarps? It does seem like a huge jump considering we are over 300 on the rpi right now.

Even if we hadn't dropped off the face of the earch after Fran it was a stretch. But now no way... however it is nice to see Siena's name still out there despite this pathetic three year period. The watered down A10 is still possible. Going forward the Siena job is still one of the best mid-major jobs in the country. We should be able to attract a strong coach. No cutting corners or cheapening out. Hopefully we can get established head coach and not a BCS assistant!

The key to Siena's future is an active Board of Trustees. If they abdicate their power to Herr Kevin and D'Arg it's a total crap shoot as to who we get. Neither of those two are "baskeball experts' and as we have seen they keep their power to themselves, rather than invoving objective experts in the decision making process.
If a good coach was hired to replace Fran Siena would definitely at least be in the discussion to join the proposed new Catholic 7 league. IMHO that's is a once in a lifeteime opportunity that would have elevated Siena as an institution tremendously. Herr Kevin and D'Arg blew that opportunity out the door. Herr Kevin professed at his inauguaration that Siena was his "ethos". In reality Kevin's ethos is our pathos. He is a small time thinker with an apparently big ego or "ethos". D'Arg is a nice guy , but no basketball man. He was a SID promoted for doing his job and not making waves.
I don't know about the rest of you, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but unless the Board of Trustees gets seroius about Siena basketball and the opportunities it gives Siena, we can just hold our breaths until March.
The Franciscans talk about "stewardship" and appreciation and gratiude. Siena was blessed when Albany County built the TUC. Has Siena really taken full advantage of the God given blessings it has been given. Gonzaga, Butler and other mid majors who received similar blessings have taken advantage.
NOW is the time. and maybe the last time, for Siena to acknowledge it's blessings, and give itself , it's alumni and the loyal fans in the CD what they deserve. I'm absolutlely positive that good, and not cheap, decisions NOW will more than pay off in many ways in the future.

The Chairman was seen walking down around the court in the second half. DId not see the President, although the lovely Ally Jacques was there, maybe she can help pick the next coach.

The fact Siena is even up for discussion w/Catholic 7 underscores what an embarrassment it is that the Saints may lose 25 games this year.
No excuse for a program with that kind of resources and fan base to have sunk to these depths since Fran McCaffery left three years ago.

Siena will be fine..trust me better days are coming I agree with Tony that better days are coming, though digging out of this hole will set us back a few years. The Board of Trustees and Father Kevin need to pull a rabbit out of the hat at this point to win back the fan base and their credibility. A jump to A-10 or, less likely, the "Catholic 7" would do that. That's what I'd shoot to do if I were in their shoes.
