Important numbers to me- turnovers are way down compared to last 5 years, hard to win win if you are turning ball over 20 times a game. Fouls are way down - again makes for much smoother game and you aren't putting other team in bonus 7 min into each half. And surprising number offensive boards are great. I'm under no false expectations, we are in a rebuilding year. But the product on the floor is so much more fun to watch and root for. Coach is positive and you can see it rubbing off on kids. dailygazette.com/article/2018/11/09/10-numbers-to-know-from-siena-men-s-basketball-s-start

Think we’re in the above ground stage of the rebuild finally after 8 years in the basement IMO

I didn’t look this up for last year’s comparison but I wonder if our steals/game totals are higher this year. If they aren’t it just seems like we’re getting more (through my eyes - which always skews things on Siena’s favor).

There are a couple of other things to take away from Kelly's article which, by the way was very good.In the first two games, they weren't relying on one person to carry the load. Some of this is due to getting the ball to the open man. What is interesting is the people crashing the boards and a new guy like Darwiche, though not playing that much, doing what he can do to help the team. It seems that everyone is ready to do the grunt work. That is good coaching and I hope JC can keep that alive for the entire season, because that is what wins games when you get to the days in late January and the newness has worn off.

I just checked and 2 games in we are up 13-10 in steals from the first 2 games of last year.

Just with how this team is playing it just seemed like we’d have more (even if it’s not more than I thought I’d be).

To me Darwiche has been somewhat a disappointment, it's always a crap shoot when you get a european and late in the game dont blame JC for taking a chance. Darwiche goes too much east and west instead of north and south. Big adjustment going from european type ball and D1 hoops. So hopefully he improves, but he has struggled to say the least the first 2 games. Haven't seen him shoot much yet, but hopefully he is typical european can shoot the ball. In fairness to Darwiche we have gone up against Big East and A10 level guards. Seeing how much Darwiche has struggled, how bad is Bayer? And again we needed players and it is a 1 year deal on Bayer so no big deal.

I expected more from Darwiche as well, base on game action I had watched previously. Hope he can adjust to being defended on the perimeter, which appears not to be a legal tactic in Europe.

Darwiche played a bit better at GW - that's encouraging as is the fact that JC gave him minutes in the second game - that investment will help the team and reinforce Darwiche's confidence along with that of his teammates. We have a real coach with a vision, a passion and the ability to get the most out of what he has - that's the big plus

Darwiche and Bayer are my only two disappointments. Iona brings in 5th year kids and they start. We bring our first one in and he's the 12th man. Darwiche isnt used to this much athleticism and aggressive defense. Not sure he has the skills to go by kids at this level, and thats going to be a problem. I wish JC had the confidence in Kadeem to run the point when Pickett gets a breather.

We have a real coach with a vision, a passion and the ability to get the most out of what he has - that's the big plus I still believe everyone will be surprised with Darwiche as the season goes. I’m not sure if everyone remembers but I don’t believe he “started” with the rest of the team for summer workouts & conditioning. Couple that with whatever minor “injury” or other reason he wasn’t actively participating in the two “open practices”. It might simply be a case of “catching up” with everyone else who was here all summer. Didn’t Sloan or Kevin say in the newspaper the other day that JCs plays are like a dictionary? Lots of them and need to learn them all? I guess I’m saying, let’s give him a little more time before we’re too disappointed in our expectations of him. I haven’t lost mine and I’m just waiting for him to show you what I believe he’s capable of. JMO

Tough crowd. College is a huge adjustment for anyone to make.... academically, culturally, socially, missing family/friends, etc. in addition to adjusting to a new style of basketball. Darwiche has only been in the country for a couple of months. Virtually, his entire world has changed. I believe it is reasonable to expect it may take a year to fully adjust, and reach a comfort zone. Maybe I’m over estimating the difficulty of the adjustment, but I think it is a reasonable perspective.

Two games against Big East and A10. GD showed up at Siena, what 2 days before school started? Think he would have benefited from being here the summer? No doubt he’s behind schedule.
Not going to write him off just yet let’s see what he looks like around mid-season, hopefully there’s some improvement. Who knows he may still turn out to be serviceable.
The Syracuse kid was a 1 year scholarship, it’s a non issue, we got Ratliff as a walk-on ... wash! JC had to fill a lot of holes quickly and in a relatively short timeframe and not to mention change a cancerous culture and coach ‘em up. From what I’ve seen over 2 games he did a hell of a job.

Didn't I read somewhere Darwiche has good numbers rebounding as a guard for the first two games. It might not be record breaking numbers, they shows he is ready to play the whole game and not just the glory stuff. also I would like to see any of us go to a new culture and excel in whatever work we did in the U.S. As for me I can only speak English. I agree with those who say wait and see.

To be clear, I am not writing off Darwiche, I think I just had unrealistically lofty expectations based on the European game film of him that I had watched. I still think he can become very good, potentially.
