I truly don’t want to be a “Debbie downer”, but I think we are getting way ahead of ourselves. This is a team that lost its top five players off of an eight win team from last year with a very short time frame to fill gaps with late recruiting. Good coaching and a plan can go a long ways ( and has already) but the deficit we have in the areas of talent and speed as well as the late loss of our point guard will make it an uphill battle this year. I am really looking forward to watching and supporting this team, and I think this will be an exciting year as we progress, however, I am not expecting much success as measured by the number of wins. However, I would really love to be proven wrong! Go Saints! Nobody expects a MAAC championship. We should enjoy the wins when they come especially on the road. I don't have a set number of them but it will more than last year. Coaching is such an important factor in college basketball. We will win games like tonight as an underdog and lose some that we shouldn't. There will be ups and downs but this team will be competitive. They have leadership for the first time in 8 years with a coach that has a winning system. When Jamion adds more horses we'll really win big IMO. While I’m not “expecting” a MAAC Tournament Championship (as I’m on record that I think we can finish anywhere from 4-8th) - I would not be surprised if they are able to pull that off. In any case, I’m having way more fun this year than last and it’s only week #1.

Darwiche was our only player that was physically overmatched. He couldn't generate any offense because he couldn't get by his man. This isnt Europe. Superior athletes will be covering him on a regular basis, and it was evident it bothered him. Bayer got minutes at Syracuse, but cant crack our top ten? THAT is demoralizing. Was hoping he'd offer more as a bridge into JC's first real recruiting class. Bayer had that incredible 6 minute spurt in the Michigan State game but other than that his only meaningful time was in the first half of the Wake Forest game where he played 4 minutes after Dolezaj picked up two quick fouls. 7 other minutes the rest of his entire career. Those 10 minutes got him a $40,000 scholarship.

I have no problem with the Bayer scholarship even if he doesn’t play this year. Kid is a good kid, well-liked by his teammates, and a leader who can help instill the culture. Then you get the scholarship. All it costs is the opportunity cost of not taking a mid-year transfer. I’m sure we expected more, but I was also told Bayer looked good in practice so I’m surprised he hasn’t played at all.

Just disappointed that we finally take one of these 5th year difference makers, and he can't crack the top ten on a 8-24 team that lost its top 6 scorers. With the start we had, it doesn't matter now. I like the group and how they play.

Give the kid a chance, I’ll bet he makes a mark as the season goes along.

We can't be sure how big of a role he will play this season but I think he will be an asset before the season is over.
