in as much as that is very NICE of Cooley to say........and some posters on here have stated that as well.............temper expectations, we are still a major work in progress no matter what we saw tonight............lets see what they can do against a GW team in the next game, another roadie vs an A10 team with better recruits..............

There is no comparison between this effort and those of the Patsos era. Except for a relatively short period in the first half when there was a defensive let down and everything they threw up went in, they played them tough. They didn't come out in the second half with their tail between their legs but out scored providence. They competed to the very end. That is the most important thing. Did some of you actually think theywould comeout and play flawless ball. Neither they nor JC are miracle workers. They are a very inexperienced team including the veterans.Mostly what the Vets got were negative learning expriences.

Hard to fault the effort no moral victories but I think we can surprise some people this season....I don't think we even played a great game and were within 7 with under 3 to go against a team projected to be a top 4 Big East team. We looked well coached and prepared. Providence had to shoot 52% from 3 just to win by 10. We have to defend the three better...but we can shoot them. Seymour, Degnan and Ratliff all hit some big shots. Defense struggled but Providence is likely the toughest team we will face in the regular season. Pickett and Camper are two young guys that will get better and better as the season goes on. On to GW...a winnable game if we shoot it well and force some turnovers. I don’t know but I’d call it a moral victory; we more than covered the spread.

Nothing to be ashamed of tonight, that’s was a solid first effort. Yup that effort and game plan will win a lot of games this year. I think we lost the game towards the end of the first half. You take that away Siena outplayed Providence at times. Let's build on it!

Mom, Marty & I saw Steve McCoy at the game and we talked briefly at the end of the game. After we got back on the bus, who steps into it but none other than Steve to say: “Hi”. What a class act. Always liked him and still do.

JP is gone, I hope we aren't going to compare every game to his. Its one game, not all games are going to be played the same. Seymour and Big Red won't make 8 3s every game. Let's see how it goes Thursday against a much weaker opponent.
Yes this was a moral victory.

I think Seymour could have made 3s shooting from the parking lot. Pickett, in time, looks like he can be a double-double machine. Friday IV has the makings of an inside beast against mid-major competition. This teams is so much more disciplined than we’ve seen in years. Providence is a big team and Siena didn’t commit stupid fouls away from the ball like we’re used to. The team is definitely a work in progress, but the ingredients are there for a fun season. On to GW. Yes, a lesser opponent, but still an “up” game. Based on tonight’s game they have a shot at snagging one from GW. However, they are coming off a season where you can argue that beating Rider would be an “up” win.

their best player is Diallo, it is the frosh Reeves having a monster game in his first career game............. The point is that was an issue in the patsos era... one player having a career game night after night... kid is 7-7 but still no one within 10 feet of him just a little deja vu on that one but it’s early. PC is picked 3rd in the Big East their roster is comprised of athletes that we do not have ...the fact they were able to move the ball and at times catch our guys out of position wasn’t surprising...watched the game and looked at the stats - we hung in there pretty well. I was very impressed by the job JC and staff did preparing for the first outing against a tough squad. This had zero resemblance to a Patsos coached game!

Much to like tonight and much to work on. This is not a Hewitt type team that tries to speed up the game. Rather, they press to make the opponent work to get into their offense and shorten the shot clock. Offensively they run sets to get the ball into the post and set up open 3 pointers.
The freshman all looked like freshman for stretches tonight but Seymour did what he was recruited to do and Pickett effectively ran the offense to the tune of 9 assists.
Need to work on rotating on defense and finishing possessions by rebounding the ball. I would think the size and athleticism of Providence had something to do with their struggles tonight.
Surprised that Bayer didn’t get any run. The Romanian kid looked out of sorts, interested to see how he develops.
Loved the enthusiasm and positivity that surrounds the team. Still think they’ll win somewhere between 10 and 15 games.

\ Totally agree with this. I think we are a top 3 team. Wow that would be something...top 3 would be tough but I hope you're right! Based on the performance of the MAAC teams last night it might not be so tough! Still think it is probably a stretch but they showed last night if they can knock down some threes and the other team isn't on fire they can win some games. Also means there will be a few where we go cold from 3 and the other team gets hot and we lose to a team we shouldn't lose to.
