Just wondering how you would rate yourself as a Siena fan today compared to 2009? For instance, in 2009, I read EVERY article in EVERY publication and on line I could find on Siena. I listened to EVERY coach's show on 88.3 - the Saint. I went to EVERY home game. I went to Fairfield to support the Saints. I brought friends to the games. I talked Siena basketball all the time. When I couldn't make a game, I listed to the radio on away games - I LOVED the general and Tommy. I listened to the pre-game and the post-game. I called in to the post game show. I checked RPI's, ESPN, and followed every MAAC team.
Today - I NEVER listen to the radio - not the same. I NEVER listen to the coach's show on 88.3 - JP has nothing of value to say. I invite a friend to come to a game once in a great while. I don't talk Siena basketball like I did. I come to about half of the home games. I am questioning seriously if I should continue with my season tickets. I don't look forward all week to games any more. If a conflict between a Saints game and my local high school team, I go to the high school game.
Is that typical of others? Or - are you as passionate as you ever were about Siena basketball?

Oh, and I should say I am the type of fan that I believe Siena needs. I am not an alum, I am a fan "off the street" - someone who got interested in Siena because I love basketball and Siena was a good mid-major program. I have had season tickets for over 15 years.

I was never quite the same level of fan as you ... but a similar trajectory. Before I would never miss a home game had premium seats and attended select away games. Perhaps we even went to the same Fairfield game— stayed at same hotel as team by accident one time. I was never one for radio participation but at least I’d listen in now and then.
Today I have cheapest season ticket and since it’s not a big investment will probably continue indefinitely. But if it so much as sprinkles out I’m home or if there is a good game on tv. I don’t consider Siena basketball to be my job like some people— I go when I feel like it. If I had to put a number on it I’d say I was probably a top 1,000 fan then and about top 5,000 now.

We must be twins! Our Siena related DNA is almost identical with the exception that I am much, much older and an alum. The radio show is the last resort these days - even lousy ESPN3 mic breathers are better than our crew - the General and Tommy set the bar and Andy now plays Limbo while holding the mic with a regular frequency. My winter schedules ALWAYS revolved around Siena - family and friends would always first inquire about a scheduled Siena game when trying to set up social functions. We now go to Florida (last two years for 2 1/2 weeks during February - this year we are going for the entire month) - the fun, excitement and pride is gone after enduring a slow death started in MP-3 and accelerating during the JP 5-year Plan (whatever that means). I've had season tickets since the early 80's and that number peaked at 12 and has steadily dropped over the past 7 years to ONE. As long as D'Arg is pulling the strings (and with seemingly much less interest in hoop now that VP title puts him at the mucky muck level) I don't know if I can immediately jump back on the all-in wagon if and when a new coach comes in, especially if hired by the same "group"!

Yeah I consider myself a "good fan" but don't have the same zeal like I did in 2005-2010 or even early Mitch or early Jimmy - it just takes a toll on you. If that makes me a "frontrunner" so be it. But why get aggravated - it's supposed to be entertainment not life and death. I've been a fan since Hewitt arrived and every year from him to Fran outside of the last Lanier was fun to different degrees.
Also the quality isn't nearly as good and not only on the court. The radio announcers are terrible. Lee and Huerter were awesome - they spoiled us. The TV package isn't as good (at least this year). The coverage isn't as good (Amedio say what you will was a good reporter and Iorizzo)
The whole athletic department needs a complete reboot otherwise the young kids now are going to be UAlbany fans. If Siena doesn't make changes it now means they're no longer just incompetent but they just don't care anymore. Siena is in a death spiral. Very very sad!

I started going to Siena games when they played in Gibbons Hall and was one of the first season ticket holders and have been ever since...not sure just how many years that has been...i know it has been a bunch...I lived and breathed Siena basketball...to me the first sign that the death knell was playing was when I realized the "dead squad" wasn't at the game...i loved those guys and regret never going up in person and thanking them...it is now an hour and a half drive for me to go to the games and i just have a hard time justifying it only to get p_ _ _ed...

I love basketball I’ve played HS ball, coached younger kids and regularly attend local HS games. Been going to Siena games for almost 40 years. Had few friends play back in the “day”. I’ll keep going but the product has fallen so far that I find most games to be unwatchable and of such a low level that I find myself becoming increasingly uninterested, aggravated and not entertained.
Went to the UA v. Kent St last week & have to say I really enjoyed myself. If UA makes a move to the CAA (Conf RPI 12 this year) I could see myself regularly attending. Since our slide UA is definitely a better product to watch.

Just curious, Giants have basically been a bad team the last few years, how many Giant fans are considering becoming Eagles fans?

My dad and the Harrell brothers were close friends who bowled in several classic leagues together in the 1960's into the 1980's. I grew up in Clifton Park and was lucky enough to be friends with Mike and Matt Bassett when Don was teaching them the intricacies of the game. Don didn't care that I was a girl as I was like a sponge learning to be a point guard at 5 ft 3 in. Title IX brought opportunities for girls but as a pre med major basketball for me went on the back burner. My first season ticket was from my Dad in 1980 when I finished college at St. Rose and I have been there ever since. By 1992 my then 4 year old daughter was hooked and we attended games together. One season ticket had grown to four to bring guest(s). We only missed games if someone was deadly ill. We read and listened to everything even attending every home and away game in the infamous 8-24 season that put the final nail in the coffin of Rob Lanier. I never though Mitch was the man for the job but I respected him unlike others here because I knew at his values were truly about educating and producing men over being in the business of just basketball. I watched the current head coach through his entire tenure in the MAAC, when many members of thus chat board would discuss his asinine sideline behavior wondering how that stuff was tolerated at Loyola, while thanking God he wasn't 'our problem'. I noted his bad game prep, lack of in game adjustments, beratement of players and staff and most appalling lobbying for the position as Siena's head coach before the end of Mitch's last MAAC tournament in Springfield. I was at our game at Loyola and watched him hobnob with Darg and some high level donors thinking how unprofessional the whole thing went down.
Although painfully obvious that the Mitch redux in the HC seat was over I thought this hire was quite possibly the worst ever for this program. And I still gave him two seasons to change his stripes. I no longer really care about missing games and only watch or listen online. Can't stand the radio show with Andy fluffing for Patsos. Scott has much more integrity. Hated the way JP snarked at AJ when he started but that has at least toned down. Won't consider season ticket again until administration gets the balls to decide what they want the program to be and charge market value if that is D2.

It only matters how good a fan you are for three days in March.

It only matters how good a fan you are for three days in March. in our case it's probably more accurate to say "... for up to four days in March."

Started listening on the radio back when Dan Twerligger (sp?) played because it was so cool to me that an upstate boy could be playing D1 college basketball. My dad helped build the ARC and I got to go there several times during construction. Knew I always wanted to be a Siena Indian. Went played football and became friends with a number of players. Attend all home and a few road games and ran the old siena board for a few years until we moved to FL. Managed to see several games since moving. But over the course of the last 8 years I have gotten so that I never stream the radio show, check the board less and less and! sadly see fewer and fewer games and care less each time. So I'd say I've gone from a hard core to very casual fan.
