You have to feel sorry for the players on this team. OK, they're not a 20 win team like a lot of us thought before the season started but they're sure as hell not as bad as they're current 4 and 14 (easily could be 1 and 17) record indicates! OD should get a medal for defending Mitch. Here's the preseason "all MAAC player of the year" watching his final season get flushed down the toilet by 1- a HC that lied to everyone and is still living in the seventies, 2- an AD that still isn't sure if the team is "progressing" or not and 3- a school president who puts $ ahead of "Franciscan values" and he still publicly remains positive about the team. Sorry but it's difficult to post anything positive about this team with the three stooges running the show. If Poole is smart he won't get over the flu until the season is over.

It’s very tough to remain positive right now. Mistakes were made for sure. Hopefully school learns from those mistakes and we start the healing the day after the season ends. The administration really took the fan base for granted- I hope it doesn’t come back to bite them in the ass

It will take some time to get the "average" fans back ... remember during Fran's first couple of seasons the attendance wasn't huge (5400 year one and 5800 in year two I think). But if we make a good hire and start building it up and winning they'll come back.
Right now it's just getting through the next 7 weeks ... hate to wish the days away but that's when the optimism will return.
3/12/13: End of an error

Feel very sorry for these young men. They were sold with false pretense.
I have been a season ticket holder for years. Unless the college president hires an adequate AD for the purpose they have stated, "To compete for a MAAC title every year" and then gets the heck out of their way.....I will be highly suspicious of anything they do.
Short of bringing in an unbelievable coach without the above, I have to pass.
Look at what happened, Fran had a team in the top 30 and this administration could get at the highest 10k in the building?
Major, major overhaul or just go back to the Arc and be St. Peter's.

The administration really took the fan base for granted- I hope it doesn’t come back to bite them in the ass It was a lazy pick. It dismissed one of the greatest aspects of this program, the fact that young up and coming coachs want to come here. At the of the day, the stars of the Siena program are not Brown, Hasbrouck, Ubiles, Rossiter, etc, and not to dismiss or minimize what those guys mean to the program, to the fans, even myself. The real stars of this program are Fran, Hewitt and Deane.

lazy and uninspired.... RR and CJ wanted him... ok great, but they are both gone going on two years now. Which is why you listen to your players, but you don't let them make the decision. having seen this much whiffing at Siena since we all tried to hit Sheets 3:16's wiffle ball curve!

Well its up the season tickets holders, boosters, alumni, and those in the Albany community to put the pressure on Fr Kevin and the board to make strong choice for head coach ! That's the only way anything will happen ! Without it...talk is pointless !

I’ve been saying that for a while now 86. Siena cannot keep up this good coach bad coach charade. Hiring Mitch was a monumental gamble of the entire program. And hey even after deciding to take a chance on Mitch, the biggest gaffe in my opinion was not firing him after his 1st season. And it couldn’t have been for financial reasons why Mitch was kept? And again if it was whoever gave a coach coming off 5 straight losing seasons , a coach who ran another MAAC program into the ground any sort of guaranteed contract should be immediately terminated – I mean it’s not like Mitch had other programs offering him a head coaching position It’s one thing to fool less sophisticated naïve fans like Miss Practice or Bill Murray but quite another to fool your AD. I know D’arg doesn’t hold all the power- but maybe it’s time Siena looks at how it runs its athletic dept . The Mitch debacle is going to end up costing Siena a tremendous amount of revenue- not only in last few years but going forward. As the effects of Mitch will be felt for years to come . Failing that ditch the 5 years plan with mention of athletics, let the contract at the TUC

Obviously you take things literally, the point I was making was what Mitch and the Admin did was so unjust to the players they are making it very hard for them to remain positive/competitive! Like many of us have said on this board, it would be great for the players to win out over the rest of the season (which is highly unlikely) but then do we run the risk of Mitch getting the final year on his contract?

Let's just hope Siena can make a good hire in the Spring. There are no guarantees, the history is 50/50. The odds should be better if the admin performs with due diligence during the process, but there is not a 100% chance of success. This may be a long haul if a misstep is made with this hire.

Don't forget, Fran backed Mitch as well. I'm sure that had a large part to do with the decision by the admin.

There are no guarantees for anybody but you increase your chances to succeed if you pick the right coach with the best resume. I think it's safe to say Mitch did not have the best resume the last time but because he had a connection to one of the best runs in Siena history he got the job. Hewitt vs. Lanier had very similar resumes before Siena hired them. It's a crapshoot when you hire a guy who's never been a head coach. Hiring a coach that was 30 games under .500 at a MAAC school was a big big time risk (I know hindsight is 20/20). That's a risk you won't see again. We had some questions when Fran got hired but he had a winning overall record and had taken two lower mid-majors to the NCAAs despite a lack of resources.

So more or less they need to sell this coach to the Siena fan base ! It can't be crap shoot or hope that brings the fans back !
