With your logic, I guess 64 team only get recruits each year.... Did you happen to notice there were some teams who had not been to the tournament in years and some who had never been there playing this weekend? Like Northwestern. How come their players decided to go there? And how come they are playing in the tourney this year? No straw grasping, just reality of college basketball and mid-major college basketball.

You are totaling missing my original point and trying to change what I am saying. This is my last post on this topic. My point is that there are many other factors besides a team making it to the NCAA tourney that recruits consider when deciding which program they are committing to. NCAA tourney appearance is an important one, but not the only one.

I'll chime in...did anyone catch the Bobby Huggins post-game over the weekend. The reporter asked if he was going to be celebrating the wins...his response: No, I'll be recruiting. Just sayin'... You dont think JP is telling his top recruits to catch him covering the NCAA tourney on national TV? Probably texting them between segments. CBS had their pick of about 250 coaches, and they chose him, so....seems like a great recruiting tool.

Both hoopdad and greenandgold also had valid points, nice to see they can agree to disagree in a polite way unlike some here. Kids this weekend are in front of their TV's or at the gym. Probably only recruiting is done by phone, tweet skype if its permitted. Not a fan of JP but I don't think he hurt his recruiting this weekend and helped in school recognition. See how it plays out.

I agree, it isn't the only factor, no denying that, but it certainly is the most lasting impression because it is visual........kids being recruited get excited when they see the schools recruiting them are on national TV in perhaps one of the greatest most exciting sporting event on the planet.............it goes something like this, yo, did you see "insert team" on last night against "other team", man that could be me next year.........it is darn powerful.........that kind of advertisement is priceless..........can't deny that kids down to 2 schools, wouldn't want to be with a program who has shown the ability to win and get into the dance on a more regular basis...............right now for JP (and Siena) that recruiting is an uphill climb.............just sayin'

I'm in the camp that anything that gets the Siena name out there is good thing, I just wonder though does Gary Williams and Maryland and Championship get uttered more than Siena? I'm also wondering is this an audition for another gig when and if things go south next season? Of course Maryland will be mentioned more. That's why they have him - he won a national championship with them. But we will mentioned more than all 10 other MAAC teams combined and that's a good thing. Agree, Mitch always talked about Rollie and Villanova winning a championship. Same thing different coaches/teams. I have no problem as long as Siena was mentioned (and it was numerous times). They plugged Siena multiple times when indicating Jimmy will be on shortly to talked about ... .
