and we can all agree (I think), that this studio appearance sets up JP very well .........at some point, he won't be coaching on the sidelines, and this "other gig" seems to be right up his ally.......so perhaps this was his approach at an informal interview for that eventual transition whenever it happens.............plenty of ex-coaches with personality doing just that (Raftery, Fraschilla, Lappas, Dakich, Vitale, Gillen, Greenberg, Welsh, Carlisimo, Brennan and many more)........

Article did not say Becker never played basketball. It said he never played tennis. Yeah, but I'm not sure he did. It seems to me that he went from basketball ball coach at Gallaudet (for the hearing impaired) to Catholic and then to UVM as DOBO. Maybe he played in HS but doesn't seem he played at the college level. uvmathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=893PERSONAL Becker earned a bachelor of arts in history from Catholic in 1990 and a master of science in information systems, with a major in business technologies from George Washington University in 2001. A member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches since 1994, he also served as a color commentator for weekly Internet broadcasts of Division III men’s basketball games from 2000-03.BEFORE VERMONT Becker came to Vermont after a two-year stint as the top assistant coach at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. While at Catholic, he helped guide the team to a 41-17 record, which included a 21-7 mark and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2005-06. His first year with Catholic saw the Cardinals go 20-10 and advance to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship game.
Prior to his time at Catholic, Becker was the head men’s basketball coach at Gallaudet University from 1997-99. Gallaudet is the country’s only four-year liberal arts college for the deaf and hearing impaired. Becker was also an assistant coach at Gallaudet from 1994-97 and head men’s tennis coach from 1995-97.

No a fan of his recruiting but what could/should Jimmy be doing this weekend when the kid is taking a visit to another school? If the groundwork for our Spring recruits hasn't been established by now, we are doomed anyway. Suggesting he shouldn't have taken this gig so he could be recruiting seems more than agenda driven. It's petty. I have to bet the Assistants are all telling our targets about "Coach" being on TV. You may be right- just bad optics, just like spending month of April in Paris year after year was ( in fairness he isn’t in Paris year) or spending May and June at Triple crown races, July and August Saratoga , Rhode Island and Cape Cod , October in middle of recruiting season off to Cal Ripken dinner, or after a Monmouth loss before MAAC tournament off to Maryland. Now I am in no way shape of form saying the guy doesn’t deserve a vacation- but when you are getting your ass kicked on recruiting trail, all these vacations don’t look good... BTW Nash isnt in Burlington this week-- after the NCAA tournament Becker, didn’t take vacation, he went right to work lining up visit by Nash next week. I must have missed when his visit to Siena is scheduled?recruiting is a tough job..a 7 x 24 job, ask any successful coach- when you recruit in your "free time" expect the results this coach has at Siena Be careful they're people too 😂

I'll chime in...did anyone catch the Bobby Huggins post-game over the weekend. The reporter asked if he was going to be celebrating the wins...his response: No, I'll be recruiting.
Just sayin'...

Nice Job by JP for his first effort in in studio and on live TV. This appears to be his future when he leaves coaching. Great exposure for Siena College and the men's basketball team. Only see positives in this. To have Siena mentioned countless times on national broadcasts... PRICELESS.

Just sayin'... yup.............this was mentioned earlier in this thread.................and taking nothing away from JP's TV appearance, while giving Siena solid exposure, any & ALL down time, coach needs to be recruiting..........that is ALWAYS the # 1 priority.........without it, well I think we all know the results...........

That exposure to a national TV audience is like being able to recruit thousands of kids at once. No way you turn that down cause it will cost you one weekend of normal recruiting. Now if people want to be critical of the vacations he takes that is fine but getting this opportunity to be in studio only increases his recruiting footprint.

Nobody watches the studio stuff unless all games are over or its the only thing left. He did a fine job and some kid who never heard of Siena or their coach might put them on their list of possible schools.

A few days of national TV exposure during the NCAA tournament with millions of people, potential recruits watching and hearing the Siena name over and over, far out weighs Jimmy missing the same few days for recruiting purposes. Plus don't you think his assistants are out recruiting during this time and saying to potential players, tune in and see our coach before and between games? What other mid major program was getting that kind of publicity? I think this was awesome for the school and program.

Thanks for stating the obvious. Of course we all want and recognize that trip back to the NCAA is the ultimate prize for Siena. Unfortunately, the team was 1 score away from that reality this year. Given what did occur and not being in the tourney, the exposure this weekend for the team was pretty amazing. And I believe that a recruit considers much more than if a team was in the NCAA's or not recently, sure it helps, but their are many other factors.
