I know it is a really, really next-to-impossible longshot, but what if........... what if Monmouth got an at-large bid to the dance, and Siena was awarded the NIT bid in their place as we were the MAAC finalist? Now that would make for the most exciting March in a LONG time.
Just sayin'

Now that would make for the most exciting March in a LONG time. Just sayin' if this was HBO, that might happen.................but NOPE, not the way the NIT works.........you get in EITHER by A) winning your reg season conference title and then not making the NCAA tourney or B) an at-large selection.......................so knowing this, should what you suggest actually happen that the Hawks get an NCAA at-large bid, then essentially NO MAAC teams will be in the NIT this post season (none are worthy enough based up on the selection criteria, won-lost records, team rpi, strength of schedule, etc.....)..................

This is why the regular season counts........... Siena was just 5-7 in two possession games this year (6 points or fewer). Lost by 2 to GW, 4 to FGCU, 2 at Rider, 3 at Canisius, 5 at Niagara and of course the title game against Iona by 1 so (not to rub salt in our wounds) we were 17 points away from being 23-11 and RPI of around 60 using the RPI wizard which would have put Siena in position for a 12 or 13 seed and capable of doing damage. There were other close losses but they are going to happen as are close wins to be fair. Instead we are 17-17 and done for the year. Better coaching and a better bench (which again is on the HC who is the defacto GM) and this season is potentially so much different for the better. I really feel for the departing seniors this year. This was all very realistic and possible without even expecting a ridiculous season (say going 26-5 i.e. Monmouth). I never want to hear the words "it's all about the MAAC again" but undoubtedly we will.

Mike, was Jimmy shooting the FTs they missed in those games? Or did he commit the turnovers? Some of those close losses are on the kids. And their not showing up for Hofstra and Vermont is too. Lots of blame to go around on the poor start. Not absolving Patsos at all but its not all coaching and a better bench IMO.

mjs coach's job to make sure the kids are up for the game, coach's job to have a game plan ( ie Brown at UA, much as I dislike his personality) coach's job to have the kids practice free throws, in your world those in charge have no responsibilities on the lower echelon

OD, sure Jimmy bears responsibility. A lot of it. But in "my world" everyone is accountable for what they are responsible for and can control. Coming ready to play is on the players. If seniors need Jimmy to pump them up for UA or UVM after the years of ass-kickings we have received, shame on them.

Yep, another L due to the coach. Poor seniors, they had to play for a shit bum coach. Please stop posting this nonsense. This post is directed at Mts and the other haters.

If they are not performing pull them, have them sit on the bench. Oh that's right Siena doesn't have a bench it can draw from, lousy recruiting and player development, comes back on the coach.

Yeah like I said you can't expect to win every close one...just that Siena was 17 points away from being a 13 seed in the big dance because our RPI/SOS was so good. Instead we got nothing but a .500 season and rebuilding again. Coaching is so big in college especially at the mid-major level. The margin is razor thin between glory and misery.

And it is clearly obvious that every one of those 17 points is 100% the coach's fault. Suspensions and missed FTs and unforced turnovers never happened. Bottomline the record is what it is. Plenty of blame to go around, but the buck stops at only one location. Jimmy is .500 Jimmy just like Fran is .500 Fran at Iowa. It all falls on the coach. I get it, but it is not always that simple and yet it is.

I'm glad you finally realize how thin that line is. A shot here and there is the difference. How do you think. Monmouth feels? If Nico doesn't go off they are a 11 seed.

But they let him. They have no one to blame but themselves. They never made him go laterally or out the ball on the floor. I assure you if they did he would not have made the 7 threes.

Come on when do you give an opponent credit? Sometimes you have to tip your cap, the other team was better. Anyone who played would know this.
