I agree with nolasaint - as much as I hated to see all the missed foul shots and turnovers on Monday, the Saints were ahead at the half despite shooting 7 of 15 FTs and having 8 turnovers. In the second half, they shot 12/15 FTs and had only 4 turnovers but were outscored by 3 points. So any number of factors, offensive and defensive, could have made the difference of 3 points, including those missed free throws, an untimely turnover, a missed shot, or Iona just executing better on one more play than the Saints. Missed free throws were a bigger factor in some of the losses earlier in the season.

Once fisher checked in Iona started a 14-1 run. Friday was used all weekend why change it for this game? The game was won and lost at the line but Siena was a completely different team when he checked into the game. 5 on 4 basketball. Yes, Iona went on a big run (I think if you check the play by play you'll see that it actually started before he got on the court and went on well after he was off the court). That is what teams like Iona do, they go on big runs and then hope it's enough to propel them to victory. But, at least on this night, every run that Iona went on, Siena matched. I'm not defending Fisher but one guy didn't cause nor extend the run. Further, Siena did not lose because of foul shots. It was a factor in the game that counterbalanced their dominance of the boards and second chance points. Just as easily, you could point to bad turnovers by Wright and Bisping in key situations or missed layups by JO or their inability to stop the Gaels once during overtime (after playing pretty good defense all game long). That is basketball. I think many on this board would debate your point that foul shots did not cost Siena the game. In regulation Siena was 15 of 26 or 57% from the charity stripe. Iona on the other hand shot 12 out of 15 or 80%. Missed opportunities from the free throw line were a torn in Siena's foot all season long and if I remember correctly cost them the opportunity to win several other games. Did the other reasons you mention factor into the loss, absolutely but they call it the "Charity Stripe" for a reason. They needed to make a higher percentage of the foul shots and they didn't. Game, Match, Set!!!

Haven't posted since the game. I was there. I had to be there. We sat immediately next to Jordan Washington's girlfriend (I assume). She was VERY active. Being close to the Iona fans, I have to say they were generally well behaved and very passionate. Have to give them props.
It was a great game, and it broke my heart. I wanted it so badly for those seniors.
I have watched portions of the game repeatedly since Monday, and I really think that it was a heroic effort by the whole team and staff, particularly the seniors. I could not be prouder of the effort and desire shown by those kids. God bless 'em. They'll be missed.

Haven't been to a game this year but saw all that were available to view and tuned into radio for all that were not. To some here, that means I am no longer a fan. Hardly true, as this program will always be embedded in my heart.

Hey GB, the real fan, the knowledgeable ones, the ones that care and will criticize the school program to make it better they are with you. Don't have to go to the games to be a fan. Probably supporting the team more as revenue is greater with the tv coverage than by paid attendance. You are a great Siena Fan
