www.dailynews724.com/sports/predicting-the-best-duos-in-college-basketball-in-the-2016-17-season-h702521.html?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeedJavion and Brett with honorable mention. Best two big men in the MAAC by far. As a duo one of the best mid-major front lines in the country IMO. You put that with a healthy Marquis Wright, a motivated Lavon Long and super sophomore Nico Clareth and this is going to be a VERY good year for Siena basketball. Siena might have 5 of the best 15 players in the MAAC next season - and the MAAC should be solid. Oh and we have Kadeem Smithen and Willem Brandwijk back into the fold. Can't wait - let's go Saints!! Brett Bisping and Javion Ogunyemi, Siena
There weren't many great pairs of frontcourt players to choose from, but Siena has a strong one. Bisping and Ogunyemi combined to average 30.8 points, 16.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game last season. If you've already penciled in Monmouth as the MAAC regular-season champion, know the Hawks will have serious competition.

I'm sick of Bisping's crap. When is he going to stop toying with us and take his game to the next level? What a slacker.

I think a healthy Quis and Nico will be a great duo also for Siena. Can the season start soon, please?

I think a healthy Quis and Nico will be a great duo also for Siena. Can the season start soon, please? I believe the team will be back on campus for summer workouts and OTAs next week. This summer is HUGE. How much work is the team willing to put in to be MAAC champions? I'm pretty optimistic that with a senior dominated team on their last go around that they will give it everything they've got this off-season to prepare for a big season!

Need a solid summer offseason to meld the team with Wright, Nico and the rest of the newcomers. The post season showing did not instill confidence that the team was on the same page. The staff has their work cut out for them to get everyone meshing seamlessly.

If Wright comes back to be at least as good as he was in his 1st 2 years, we should be fine. There is a lot of athleticism on this team now.
With Wright, Clareth, and JO we have 3 guys who put up DPOY type stats. Then you add Bisping's charges, WBs energy, and a stable of athletic guards. I think the defense will be better.
If WB moves past Fisher, our D could get a big boost. He can be an impact defender at times. Like a momentum changing defender. Fisher was a ghost on D last year. The defensive drop off was huge.
If Smithen is good, we can win it all. If he's not, it might be tougher but still possible.

Last year's MAAC all-Kenpom ranks.
1 AJ English, Iona (Sr) 2 Justin Robinson, Monmouth (Jr) 3 Jordan Washington, Iona (Jr) 4 Brett Bisping, Siena (Jr) 5 Javion Ogunyemi, Siena (Jr)
Marquis was on the list before his injury.
Saints really could have 3 of the top 6 all around impact players, not even including whatever jump Clareth puts forward.
Outside of Robinson, not many players are as impactful in multiple facets of the game as our top 4.
Washington beats himself.
Seaborn, Much, Nelson and others are very good but not a lot of players are impact players on both offense AND defense or offense AND on the boards.
Rich Williams or Curtis Cobb could have a year like that maybe but really most of these other guys are primarily high efficiency shooters/scorers, not necessarily impactful in the toughness categories.
Siena is in a pretty good toughness position.

Siena is full of potential stat category leaders.
Wright has led the MAAC in Assists JO has led the MAAC in blocks Bisping has led the MAAC in rebounding And both Wright and Clareth are capable of leading the MAAC in steals.
Not to mention the fact that Siena as a team just led the MAAC in rebounding margin, FG% offense, and was just behind Quinny in blocks overall....even with Fisher out there.
Siena has a lot of ways to beat teams.
Monmouth may be hungrier and more disciplined in their style but Siena has abilities that it has not even yet fully taken advantage of....most notably combining all of this established talent with Wright actually playing as PG.
For various reasons, the ball was out of the hands of our most efficient passer and ballhandler most of last year. Siena turned it over 16 times per game vs. just 12.5 the year before. With him out there for a full year, as a PG, and combo guys like Smithen, Wormley, Richard, plus a more disciplined Clareth and Long...it would not be hard to see the turnovers drop dramatically.
Lavon had a 109-104 assist ratio last year. He did a lot of things well but a 1 to 1 assist ratio out of your primary ballhandler is not good. On top of that, the absence of Wright and the youth of the frosh led to Bisping and JO handling the ball more than they should have.
Wright had a 1.8 assist ratio over his 1st 2 years. Moving the ball out of less efficient hands back into his hands should go a long way towards cutting the turnovers down over the long haul. He just needs to be back to 100%.
Because of that, I think Siena hasn't reached its peak yet. And that peak may be higher than Monmouths...

Siena is in a pretty good toughness position. I realize KenPom is the entire season based on many different factors but it is kind of funny to see Washington 3rd, Bisping 4th and JO 5th. Washington was a very good player against EVERYONE not named Siena. He averaged 4.3 PPG - 4 rebounds and shot .333 in three games against Siena playing 10.7 MPG. JO completely dominated him in all three match-ups last year. JO averaged 16.7 PPG and 5.7 RPG and 2.3 blocks per game against Iona and shot 60%. Brett averaged 17.3 PPG and 13.3 RPG with 3 APG against the Gaels shooting 50%. The reason Iona beat us two out of three and eliminated Siena in the MAAC tournament was primarily AJ English and Isiah Williams talent/experience. They're both gone but the Gaels return Much. Let's see what he can do with the target on his back now. Anyway excellent analysis KK you are more than just a comedian after all!

JW is highly efficient from a scoring and rebounding standpoint when he's actually on the floor. That's why he's 3rd. 14 & 6 in less than 19 mpg.
The problem with him is that he's an idiot. He plays like a runaway train. He puts his head down and charges every time and Bisping is the one guy in the league trying to draw one every time. Not to even mention the fact that he fouls more than Lavon in his prime and our team's style is to attack the paint, shoot 2's, and draw fouls. It's a bad match up for him. Siena wasn't the 3 pt gunning donut team most of the rest of the MAAC was.

Smithen is my X factor for this team. Saw him play a few times in practice and he is quick and has long arms- I envision him as very good at press. The few times I saw him his shot looked good.
Last year in going 1-4 vs Iona and Monmouth we gave up almost 85ppg. We just weren’t quick enough on perimeter to guard them. With a healthy Wright, Nico, Kenny, Kadeem, Joseph and Richards, we are as quick and athletic as anyone in MAAC - and of course we have by far the best front court in MAAC- that should just get stronger with return of WB

Smithen, WB, and increased production/efficiency from both Wright and Clareth. More production out of Wormley would do as well.
Those are my keys this year.
BB, JO, and LL can basically just do what they do.
Everyone else on the team is just noise. We go 8 deep of experienced rotation guys before even talking about a newcomer. If you include Smithen cause of practicing with the team, it's 9.
Joseph, Richard, Heurter, Gottfried...they are largely just background music this year.

I like Smithen on defense, not so much offensively.

I like Smithen on defense, not so much offensively. That's fine for next year. Nico and the four seniors probably will combine for about 65-70 points by themselves. To beat Iona and Monmouth we need more defense at SG/SF especially. Hoping Joseph can help there too.
