Gives us a chance to play good non conference teams that we have a shot at beating on a home court. They were horrible last year it's not like they just won it--- I don't understand why fans dontbembrace these games. There are 11 teams in the maac now and with our coach the chances of ever making it back to the ncaa or even the nit are pretty slim. As we saw last year you never know what next year will bring -- the team earned this slot so they should take it-- pretty simple really. Fire Patsos? If you don't think he's not the guy to get you to the NCAAs why not? Mike Deane made one NCAA tournament in 8 years (and coached the best player and another top 5 guy in Siena history) and is raved about. Don't think he'd make it here today. Well I guess it is a different era. It seems Patsos can't recruit and can't coach has only had two 20 win seasons in three years and hasn't gotten to the NCAAs during his three year tenure. Clearly a total failure and should be let go before he runs the program further into the ground.

Well in addition deane had the great nit run. Look some of it isn't even patsos fault honestly. There are more teams now which means more competition for players for the same one slot-- with no real help from the admin. All I am really saying is we are not in the position to pin all our hopes on 3 days in March then get petulant and take our ball and go home. This is a top 100 team, more games are to be played so we should go enjoy them. The more people show up the better the school looks and the more funds it will create for the program. It's a fun team and if they win a few games it will be that much closer to horse racing season when it's over.

Well I would say the freshmen and sophomores would pay the juniors and seniors so it would be a wash.

I too don't understand the lack of enthusiasm for this yrsr's cbi (or cit/Vegas tourneys). Do I think Jimmy's the greatest coach, no; but he's currently Siena's coach and I'm a Siena fan - that's good enough for me. He's got my support but sound like in another 4 years if Siena doesn't make it to NIT or NCAAs I might be the only one. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Look at MAAC basketball history championship teams. Last 35 years dominated by 4 teams one of which is no longer in the league. Iona Manhattan Siena LaSalle clearly are the schools. Iona 9, Siena, Manhattan 5, and LaSalle 4. That's approaching 65+% with Iona over 25%. Btw FF has more tournament final appearances than Siena 10-8. To their credit Iona has had a history of great coaches. Let others digest and comment before I do. Gives fuel to some here.

In today's TU - "Siena and UAlbany Not Done Yet"
Fill in the blanks:
"________ said he has some players on his team who don't want to play now that the NCAA Tournament is a bust.
'I think 90 percent of them want to keep playing.' ________ said. 'There are a few who don't, but that is the world we live in. (Playing again) will show me who wants it. Let's see how bad you want to play.'"
For extra credit:
1) Name another local coach (go back as far as you want) who would say that about their team to the media in a similar situation in any sport? 2) Is it reasonable for a local college to cough up $40,000 to finance a pay per view player tryout game or games to help decide whose ship has sailed? 3) Is it reasonable for a college D1 coach to have to use the media to fire up his team?
Discuss - I didn't want to color it with my views

Responding to OldDave: Although Siena's number isn't the "best" the league only prospers when Siena is in the hunt therefore it is important not to have many down years ... But if you were to graph out the years it looks like a roller coaster ride ... And it reflects the carousel of coaching changes

Totally agrees that is one of the points made. Perhaps one of the number posters here that are junkies could graph out coaching changes by hoop say over th last 25 years. Also which could be discussed is transfer and junior college transfers to championships. This has been discussed depth here.

I mean, we don't know who said it or what the context was or even if it was actually said at all, but depending on the circumstances maybe it's best to part ways with those that don't want to play. It's d1 hoops -- soon the majority of these players wil be playing in sweat boxes in front of about 50 fans for peanuts, and for only a few more years at that.

I can tell you that no Maac team has ever won an ncaa second round game with Jcs or transfers as its focal point

Outside of injury, I would expect any competitor to want to keep playing.
