You need to answer my question that you sidestepped. The "needs" YOU bought up are being filled by what recruits we currently have coming? So you've got Paige as a star already huh because he plays on a real good HS team? Did I miss something? Who did we beat out for his services? And being on a top 20 team (as you love to point out), there's NO CHANCE he slipped under the radar. He's NOT: 1)a back-up point guard. 2) a scoring off guard, or 3)an athletic athlete frontcourt player that can finish. RE-read his profile. Does a little bit of everything, and is does all the little things to win. those are attributes usually given to kids that are "decent" athletes, not great ones. --and I'd compare him to Lavon Long, and I'd be right on. If you think Gottfried (We were his ONLY D-1 scholarship---even your savior, Jimmer-wannabe already has several offers as a junior) is at anyway a point guard, you're sadly mistaken. Not even close. Watch more video. Lastly, who said recruiting is over? I said AS OF RIGHT NOW. You wanna hang your hat on a academic high-risk like Taplin, go ahead. KB sounds like a nice player, but hardly the type of kid you described in your initial rant. The NEEDS you mentioned are real, but so far haven't been filled. That's a fact. Could not agree more. From what I have read and viewed I see Paige as a player similar to Long and White, but with possibly a better perimeter game. Gottfried looks like a role player who can come in and hit some threes, in time. Would be more enthusiastic if he was strictly a preferred walk on who could possibly play his way into a scholarship later on in his career. From the quotes from his dad it sounds like he is promised at least 3 years on scholarship and hoping a scholarship for next year will work out. Does this mean he gets the next ship that becomes available before Taplin or another recruit? Long and white are very different players. Gottfried was getting looks from other teams...Wofford and Utah State. For siena he is a role player. A role that no one on the team currently fills. Oliver in moments has been closest. Cole is already here and fills a role that no one on the team currently fills. He's able to create his own shot. He also provides s complimenting scorer to Poole which doesn't really exist right now Im still confident in Taplin or similar being on the roster next year Throw in brandwijk with the aging of the current freshman and things will be brighter

Ouch.......
I am still processing what I drove down and back to watch last night. Must say I have some very deep concerns about the persona that this team is taking on. I can find a hundred ways to beat us (and I only formally coached 7-8th grade girls) both physically and mentally.
Maybe I am crazy, but the better team doesn't always win....the smarter, harder playing team always has a fighting chance.
The Mindset of a Champion (posted earlier in this thread, thank you, thank you) should be required reading for the entire team at this point. Hell, I would even screw practice and have a roundtable discussion with them after they read the paper.
I don't like feeling like we don't have a fighting chance. We were (collectively)never in the building last night, IMHO there is just no excuse for that this time of the year.
Maybe Ryan Oliver is the only one who thinks he has to play his ass off to keep his scholly? Everyone is replaceable, isn't that the message here? It's a little unnerving that the Gottfried's are speaking so freely that they will be getting at least a three year free ride for a 'role player'. Even the usual suspects who over hype recruits are cautious with Paige, yet we are so eager to push aside to bring in what appears on the surface to be the same, again IMHO.
Sorry, I am a little tired today but I am also a very down in the dumps Saints fan.

Excellent Post Greenblood!
Many posters are ready to tar and feather anyone who is willing to speak the truth about what is going on. Wins make people feel good so they don't criticize. This past week's coaching and recruiting was awful.
I want to believe in Jimmy like everyone else, but sometimes he dodges difficult questions and speaks over the fans.
He hasn't addressed how he intends to coach this fouling problem. He never justified the Cam Gottfried scholarship.
I'm sure that he doesn't want to be or feel that he is accountable to the fans.
Poole commits that stupid foul in the lst 20+ seconds of the Quinnipiac game which opened the door to a loss in OT, and then comes back in the next game to take only two shots. A very bad sign, if he is your best player.
Where is the coaching!
We all want and many of desperately need Jimmy to succeed. With all the resources Siena has we should never have 4 straight losing years in the MAAC. Why would the A-10 want to pick us up?

With all the youngsters it is very hard. Talent can be so apparent one game and then the problems with straight execution become apparent the next.

Sorry, but with exception of Marquis, the youngsters haven't been the ones keeping us in or winning games.

Sorry, I am a little tired today but I am also a very down in the dumps Saints fan. Cheer up - it will likely get worse before it gets better! I wonder if there is a John Madden inspired award for the team that finishes with the most personal fouls in a season? We could award it at the Not So Final Banquet before we actually win it!!! Funny how last year we were wishing, in just about every game, that our "HC" would get tossed. Now we have one that seems to think his T's are a badge of honor. First time I ever saw a situation where the "order of fouls" on the same play has been important. The zebras (can't call them refs) were all set to give the wounded Cock two shots on what was the 9th foul when it happened; the 9th foul caused Jimmy to freak and get T #1 and team foul #10! Some crowd rumblings from the Siena side got the refs thinking and the kid only got a 1 and 1. After getting T #2, I think Jimmy tried to redeem himself with those of us that rode down on the fan bus - when we got on we found 6 large pizzas! Yet another first and a precedent that I, burp, would support - went very well with my "wipe the game out of my mind" beers.

Some thoughts: The unnecessary fouls this late in the season ARE a concern. Jimmy's ranting is a concern. His yanking kids for some silly mistakes (missing a box out) and not others (silly foul 70 feet from the hoop) is a concern. I think Paige will surprise everyone and have a VERY good career at Siena. If Jimmy gets Taplin and Willem B. everyone will be happy. If he doesn't get them or other comparable players for NEXT season everyone will have a legitimate gripe if the team struggles again. Patrick Cole being the best player on this team and being able to get his shot off against this team does NOT make him a 1st Team All-MAAC player. Growing a little concerned that folks might be expecting too much from him next year. Happy for John Dunne but bummed for our Saints!

I don't expect him too be first team...he does fill a need that the current team has. That in itself might have been 3 or 4 more wins this year already

Sorry, but with exception of Marquis, the youngsters haven't been the ones keeping us in or winning games. Many of the games it wasn't the youngsters causing the L either. The veterans on this team get beat as much or more on defense. The team that was left by the previous coach is slow and lack athleticism.. both of which have been huge issues and even more embarrassing is that siena lacks speed and athleticism to hang in the maac

I don't mean to sound like one of the people tar & feathering anyone who speaks out about the Team, their play, coaches coaching of lack there of. I'm going to be a Siena fan long after these players & coaches are gone. I was still a huge Siena fan when Beyer, Orr, Lanier & Mitch were coaching (probably a bigger fan vocally at the games than the people wanted me to be - since they were in a bad mood for the poor teams/coaching) as I was for Deane, Hewitt, Fran & Jimmy. I don't mind the complaining, but I don't understand what good complaining about something we don't have any control over. Seems to be a total waste of energy that could be put to better use cheering the team and coaches on during the games. None of us can singularly or as a group change Jimmy's way of coaching; unless we give Hugh sums of money to the school, get on board and make changes that wee see fit. We're stuck with him until he gets Siena winning and is snatched up by the Bigs or he fails and gets fired. I for one hope for the first than the latter. I'm going along for the ride and will continue to support the players, coaches and other fans, as I know each one of you are going to do too. Again, I get the frustration with the inconsistent play, coaching, intensity level at time, etc., but the only thing I can control was cheering them on last night until my voice went (which unfortunately I've abused too much in the past and get hoarse sooner each game).

Let's remember that we don't know what Jimmy may have said pregame to "motivate" the team. Perhaps he was already cruising for his techs before the game even started. He may have belittled the players to the point where they were unable to focus. It would not be the first time and won't be the last.
