Several reasons why UA didn’t make move- not the least of which is cost- UA putting a lot of money into football, and these are not the best of times tax wise . A move to CAA would have resulted in at least a million dollar increase for men’s BB and several million for entire athletic dept. If the CAA expands again and more northern schools are involved. I can certainly see UA eventually making the move to CAA The other theory is that the AE would have BU'd UA...with the AE tourney at the SEFCU.

Has UA gotten rid of the jerseys they wore against Siena yet? Wasn't a fan of those

They would have moved the AE tourny if they barred UA-- programs dont make those type of decisions based on one year - you have to look at big picture. And who knows that big picture might look better for UA as soon as this spring

I didn't know they declined an invitation to the CAA. Wow. Why invest in FB if you aren't willing to improve all sports?!?!? Especially FCS/1AA FB. Most schools making moves are doing it in support of FB. I guess they got their cake and eat it too with the CAA for FB only. BCS would be an all or nothing thing probably.
I'm not saying the CAA is a phenomenal hoop league but it does have a way higher stature than the AE (unless someone mistakes the AE for the new AA (American Athletic) conference :-) ). It seems like that would've been the reason to take FB to the next level to begin with. To me that would be like Siena building the new practice facility/ARC expansion and then turning down the A10. Why spend the money to go half way?

Why spend the money to go half way? To be clear...football moved to the CAA...all sports declined. Major reason appears to have been cost. My person opinion and speculation is that they simply punted the decision in order to get finances in order. Make no mistake, it's going to cost a boat load of money to move all sports. CAA is not what it used to be but it's WAY better then the AE. I'm in strong favor of the move if they can increase budget to be competitive...

ClickClack - I think I understood you correctly. You think maybe they're holding out for the MAC as that would be a better all-sports conference and allow they to compete head to head with Buffalo? My understanding is that there's a great deal of competitive anymosity between the 2 administrations.
Again the cost thing seems to not jive with a major FB stadium expansion. Was it really just for FB? Maybe circumstances dictate that they jump with 1 foot and not both feet into the deep end of the pool. I'm in no way criticizing UA football but I don't ever see 1AA FB being anything but a loss leader. UA would have been better served to spend the money on making SEFCU a palace and focusing on the other sports. I'd argue that dropping FB and building/expanding the hoop arena to 7 or 8K seats with some lux boxes would've positioned them nicely for A10 membership (UMass, URI). For 2012 the highest attendance for FCS was Appalachian State at 26K. The average of the best is ~16-18K. With gender equity in mind, there's no way that pays the bills.
Does anyone know definitively what UA's sports strategy is?

( at least not last year) Do not be surprised to see Albany move all sports to CAA in next few years- maybe as soon as this spring

Does anyone know definitively what UA's sports strategy is? It's a closely guarded secret...lol. It helps that the new president is very strong pro-sports. They are in design work on Phase II of the stadium to expend to 15k seats. Football floats the boat here...how do you think we got a full invite to the CAA? Helps that we are a good overall program across the board.

Click, how well did UA draw in football? . I know there was 9K plus for the opener. I believe they were at 84% capacity last time I ran the numbers. Homecoming was also sold out...the end of the year is a tough draw because of the cold. Not to mention 1 win season...next years schedule calls for a number of games in the warmer months which will help.

That's understandable...the product was poor with years of limited recruiting and limited scholarships. It will get much better...

New coach looks good. But I felt bad for Ryan McCarthy. He was mentioned for the HC position at Castleton.
