I had a lot of amusement reading the Iowa board's members sweating out the Hawkeyes ' 83-75 home win against DI newcomer Nebraska at Omaha. although the board members have been extolling the team's great depth of skilled players they don't think Fran M. should use 11 players.

Omaha is in their 3rd D1 season, so not technically new. They do have D1 players and play in a decent Summit League.

I'm sure Fran does not share your opinion that a close win at home against Nebraska-Omaha is something to be proud of. I didn't see the game, but I'm sure his head was close to exploding the entire game.

Personally, I pointed out that Omaha isn't a "new" D1 team as had been stated.

Iowa has one of the weakest OOC schedules of any BCS team. UNC-Wilm, Omaha, Maryland Eastern Shore, Abilene Christian, Penn, Xavier, Drake, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Arkansas Pine Bluff. They will have a horrible RPI and SOS, again. As a mid pack Big Ten team, any conference struggles and they are out of NCAA tourney consideration. My prediction- no NCAA's and Fran is shown the door.

Fran isn't going anyplace for a while. They just signed him to a long-term deal. That said the Iowa fans won't be happy unless they make the NCAAs this season. That non-conference schedule is pretty weak. I don't get why he didn't load it up a least a little more since Iowa should be pretty good. The Big 10 is a top 2 conference but unless Iowa has at least a 10-8 Big 10 season it won't be good enough for the NCAAs with that OOC schedule. I hope Jimmy and Fran get together (they are friends) for a Siena-Iowa home and home. Or even a 3-game series one at Iowa, one at Siena and one at say MSG.

[/quot Okay can we agree that UN-O should not have been a test for Iowa and Fran was no doubt rightly upset with his team's performance?

I'm sorry upstate nitpicker.I didn't have the time or inclination to do all the research you do. I only quoted the Iowa board members who referred to the opponent as a D I newcomer. I guess if you have been big time for a 120 years a three year member seems like a newcomer. I won't be upset if you come back and tell me Iowa has only been big time for a 118 years (lol).

Plus the so called newcomer usually doesn't qualify for their league affiliate tournament or NCAA tourney for 4 or 5 years.

I didn't need to do research. I follow college basketball. If you don't follow and you don't know, maybe you should do the research or stop being so sensitive when you are corrected.

He did the same thing last year and went NIT because of it. He's looking for easy wins and it's costing them in the long run.

Why schedule up in the ooc when your conference games are some of the toughest in the country
