Go with freshman backcourt. When Hymes comes back he is certainly going to see time, and if White progresses, what do you say to Oliver? Thanks but now youre 3rd string kid? Lets roll with Wright and White for 4 years!!!! Wright - - Hymes White - - Hymes - - Oliver - - Audu Poole - - Oliver Long - - Bisping Silas - - Ogunyemi I know that Silas has been foul prone and off to a slow start. I just think that it will be hard to go up against big schools early on and not start youre best rebounder to see what he can give you, at least initially. I agree with 12077; I think White has surpassed Audu. However, Oliver brings some extra intangibles to the table - he is mature beyond his years and is not afraid to be verbal on the court. Remember, he is also older than a typical SOPH as he went prep. Brett is playing very tough in practice every day and based on the opponents I think as others have said we could have a three headed center. I think we should stick with Wright unless he gets in some serious troubles out there and use Evan as a quick sniper in theory - hopefully the hand injuries have not affected his touch. Imoh is situational. Hopefully he gets it together when we need a bigger, stronger, older inside presence in league play against the loaded with transfer teams. Nice to have options, IMHO.

And Burns was there ysterday. Seems like he attends a lot of Siena eventsfora kid going big time. I could see him graduating this year and coming to Siena. A future fron line of JO at center, Long at PF and Burns at SF could be tough. I thought that was him sitting in the front row. Yes, it is interesting that he seemed engaged with Jimmy after the scrimmage ended. Can JP reel him in??? Boy that would be something.

It seems to me that drawing any conclusions about Ryan and Rich based for the most part on what fans saw last year is inconsistent with what most fans thought of the coaching that those kids received. Neither got any benefit from MB's game "plan" or his "coaching" - in fact, the efforts MB put into changing their skill set to fit the single option offense did much harm! I've said it before and I have to say it again, give the criticism a rest until you see them play when the season starts. Writing either or both off based on watching a green and gold like practice makes no sense. Neither had a great (or even good for that matter) game yesterday. That happens. I can recall stinkers from many of the "stars" on Fran's teams well into their careers in games that counted. Jimmy and his staff have watched Ryan progress since April and it is very obvious that they like what they see and will give him a chance for some serious minutes. Matchups will dictate minutes, not negativity from the fan base. It serves no good purpose to slam any of them. If you have a strong need to slam athletes go pick on the Giants - more than enough meat there for even the hungriest critical fan.....

Normally I would say start the 4 Freshmen and let them get experience, but everything I have read and by watching interviews with coaches I think you have to take into account the new defensive rule changes. These kids are about to see competition that is a lot bigger and athletic on a constant basis than they have seen in practice and Montreal. The freshmen IMO are tough and aggressive kids on the court and would bring tough D before offense early in the season which unfortunately could be a problem with the new rules. You want to put these kids in a position to succeed and not saddled on the bench with 2 fouls 5 minutes into the game, especially at the start of the season while the refs get used to these rules. I feel you start Long and Wright for now. These rules put a premium on 3 pt shooting which may be the reason you start Oliver. I know most are down on Hymes but these rules really help his game.

Agree hoopsfan which I believe is why the staff held the scrimmage yesterday with three refs on court. In sitting in the few practices/scrimmages I have seen I firmly believe that this staff is working very diligently to provide the tools for the kids to be their best; what they each do with that is up to them.

Oliver owns the starting 2 spot right now Oliver owns nothing. He's renting, at best. More like a timeshare. White is the best "2" on the team (took one practice to see that;)

I think you play your best players all the time. That said I can see bringing a couple of the freshmen off the bench at least to start the season with the UA game and then a bunch of tough opponents on the road. Just because White or JO doesn't start it doesn't mean they won't play more minutes than the guy starting ahead of them. Sometimes sitting at the start gives them a chance to see how the game is playing out. Eventually we are going to see the four freshmen start with Poole probably by mid-season. We might take some bumps this season but it really should pay off by year two of the Patsos era.

I would be comfortable watching the Saints take some licks in 2013-14 in order to build to 2014-15. That's going to be a unique opportunity year for us. The tourney comes back home. Poole, Hymes, and Silas will be seniors. Jimmy's first class will be having their sophomore jumps. Manhattan graduates Beaman, Canisius graduates Barron, and Iona graduates Armand and Bizarro Poole. That's a year to strike. Whatever it takes to be ready to do that, I'll be along for the ride.

I'm a big Hymes fan but he has missed too much time (man I hate being right ALL the time). If the freshmen are the best play them. Any lumps we take should be smoothed out by maac play-- I will be concerned if we are not at least close to the top half of the maac. Let's go saints!

It would be nice to let Wright and White garner some chemistry together in the back court before MAAC play. They will see plenty of time together even if White doesn't start I suppose. I would like to see those two with Poole Long and Silas. That lineup may struggle to score at times so in comes offensive upgrades at whichever position you need or want - Hymes in for Wright or White to provide a spark, Oliver in to knock down threes if White or Poole are cold, Bisping in for Long as a shooter or can get to the FT line for points, and JO in for Silas against a weak interior. Plenty of options which would be nice to have for once.

That starting group would atleast be the top defensive and rebounding group, and you can sub in offense wherever you need it depending on matchups or who is playing well. Just mythoughts

No lower than 7th, and frankly if they are 7th t would still be concerned depending on the circumstances. Again, we are talking about the maac, which is made up of about three good programs and a bunch of nec schools. Freshman or not. If they have talent and patsos knows what he is doing 9-11 maac wins is not too much to ask for.

No reason for us to be any worse than 5th place in any season, this one--with all the young guys--no exception.
