I know what you mean but I remember Poole having to break presses several times by himself because either Oliver or Audu just couldn't handle the ball. I mean it was very obvious. I'm not talking about a bad offensive scheme I'm talking about skill. I might just be flat out wrong but that's what I'll be watching for.... At least the first few games.

If you knew you were going to get yanked and buried on the bench over one turnover would you have been in much of a hurry to try and help break a press?

I'm not talking about a bad offensive scheme I'm talking about skill. I might just be flat out wrong but that's what I'll be watching for.... At least the first few games. I don't recall Poole ever being the primary ball-handler bringing the ball up the court by himself and having to break presses. What I to recall is Mitch having the other 4 players sitting in the half court waiting for the PG to walk the ball into the half-court sets. If someone had problem breaking a press without assistance it was because Mitch had no other players back there to help break it. They'd then pass the ball around as the shot clock ran out before someone heaves up an ill-advised desperation shot or they passed it into OD - who rarely passed it back out if he had no shot. Rinse and repeat. Every game. What you'll see now is a full court running offense where players spread the floor and there's always someone nearby to help out. The speedy PG will also be running the all up the court instead of walking into double teams, so trapping him will be a lot harder. I think the new offense and the presence of a pure PG will be all the difference in the world in terms of breaking presses and negating any ball-handling issues other players may have. Anyone who wants to press a running Hymes and/or Wright - good luck with that.

The more I research White the more I see a 1,500 point scorer and great defender. Love 6-4, 200. Reminds me of Fran's first recruit from Baltimore. With he and Wright, it could be a lot like Kenny and Ronnie.

Not to belabor the point but there were several times when Hymes was out and yes not by design but out of necessity Poole did break the press because either Audu or Oliver couldn't handle the press and dribble out. I'm sure there are a few comments on this board regarding their ball handling ability as well.
May be just freshman / Mitch thing but I also don't recall them beating anyone off the bounce.

Dribble and ball control along with playing within himself are the two things holding Audu back right now. On defense he is very instinctive, quick and plays agressively at 6'3". He is great in a press or man to man. His defensive flaws are limited to over playing passing lanes and going for shot fakes. Offensivle no one is asking him to be a great scorer. If he learns to play under control he will finish at the rim in transition or get to the line where he has shown to be solid. Playing under control would also allow him to not throw up a wild shot when he drives into the lane. He can hit a 3 if left open, but hes really a streaky shooter. Improving his handle will allow him to break from pressure situations and take it to into the lane in the halfcourt to draw fouls. He has potential but I'm not sure his ceiling yet and certainly not going to write him off just yet
