With any luck D’Argenio is making retirement plans. He can’t be part of this next hire. Wonder if Lori Anctil and Will Brown are in play? I’m sure he’ll be making a push. Just shut the whole department down if the plan is Antcil and Brown.

It had to be done, after the disaster, record breaking season. Carm had to go. Kudos to the Siena President for making the decision which was the right one for the program!
And PLEASE DO NOT hire Will Brown!!!

Please no Brown. Let’s aim higher than the median.

Brown might make financial sense but it will come across as another lazy, quick hire. I've never been a huge fan or Will Brown but he isn't a bad guy nor a bad coach. I think he'd be a bit over .500 and maybe could win the MAAC with the overall poor coaching, but I don't think he's a Fran. Unfortunately, Fran is my bar now :-)
That said, while WB would be uninspiring, I'm still going to renew my tix to show support if he's the choice. He'd also win at least 10 more games than Carm did with the same crew.

This is my final list of candidates. I understand many will think names on this list are unrealistic. I don’t have any direct knowledge of Siena’s financial situation so I’m basing this list on who Siena has hired in the past when conducting an open search. Hewitt, Orr and Lanier were name assistants. Fran McCaffrey was a successful D1 coach but not yet being considered for high mid major or BCS jobs. Patsos took over a struggling program at Loyola and had some mild success. Jamion Christian was in his 30’s and had multiple NCAA appearances from the NEC.
Probably not realistic but make them say no:
Jerrod Calhoun, Youngstown State Current salary $300,000 Youngstown State’s not an easy place to win and he’s had two straight 20 win seasons. Maybe he wants to leave before he stagnates. Not much connection to the Northeast but went to a Catholic HS in Cleveland. Before YSU, he was a very successful D2 coach in highly competitive West Virginia league.
John Becker, UVM Current salary $360,000
Passed over numerous times for bigger jobs. If he wants to eventually get a bigger job he may have to take a lateral. He was a college teammate of Jimmy Patsos so that would be an obstacle.
Rob Senderoff, Kent State Current salary $300,000 Originally from Rockland County. Went to SUNY Albany. On paper there’s no reason for him to leave Kent State but he’s been there for 13 years and hasn’t gotten a better job so maybe he’s looking for a lateral.
Realistic candidates who are current HC’s:
Robert Jones, Norfolk State Current Salary $305,000 From Queens, NY. Has won 75% of his games in the MEAC over 11 years. A caveat would be that he took over from Anthony Evans who brought NSU to the top of the MEAC, so he doesn’t have experience with a rebuild.
Donald Coepland, Wagner Current salary $200,000? From Jersey City, NJ. St Anthony’s pedigree. Solid PG at Seton Hall like Shaheen Holloway. Learned under successful coach Bashir Mason. Has now taken Wagner to the NCAAT which is something Danny Hurley and Bashir Mason didn’t do.
Jordan Fee, Gannon Current salary $150,000? From Grove City, PA. Took over a 3 win Gannon program and has them ranked top 5 in D2. The top scorer on Gannon, Josh Omojafo was on the team last year, so it wasn’t just a total overhaul of the roster either. Runs Jim Crutchfield’s “system” which has been very successful in Division 2.
Phil Martelli JR, Bryant Current Salary $250,000? From suburban Philly. Has done solid at Bryant this year. He’s coaching Grasso’s players though so take it with a grain of salt.
In my opinion, I would refrain from hiring somebody without HC experience but here’s a list of assistant coaches who check some boxes:
Luke Murray, UCONN- Grew up in Manhattan Kimani Young, UCONN- From Queens Brandin Knight, Rutgers- From NJ, Star at PITT Mike Pegues, Butler - Went to Dematha in MD, Star at Delaware Ricardo Greer, Dayton- From Manhattan, star at Pitt Jamal Brunt, Penn State- From Baltimore Chester Frazier, Illinois- From Baltimore Billy Donlon, Clemson- From Chicago, Previous HC experience at Wright State and UMKC
Name I considered but I don’t think is realistic
Joe Gallo, Merrimack- He’s at his alma mater and they’re joining the MAAC next year. I don’t think he leaves.

Please think bigger:
Jarrod Calhoun Matt Lange James jones Takayo Siddle Kenny Blakeney
I can think of any possible pitino/Archie types looking to get back into it.

Just an FYI Robert Jones is in talks to become the new HC at UIC For sure. I wrote that last week- I would have removed Jones but from what I understand the deal isn’t done at UIC yet.

I think D'Arg retires and Lori picks up the ball. My 2 cents.

It’s the RIGHT move but I’m actually pretty shocked. I told you this was a possibility. My sources totally nailed it. D’Arg wanted to keep Carm and was informed it was either him or Carm. D’Arg will be forced into retirement within the next couple of years. I feel for Carm the man but not the coach. Nobody survives 4-28 in year 5 at any place with real expectations and fan support. Siena must get the next hire right. Could literally be the entire basketball program at stake! Having to firing 3 coaches in 11 years and 4 in 19 if you go back to Lanier is completely embarrassing.

However, if it is Brown as a "bridge coach" while they pay out Carm's contract, I could understand and support that. I just decided this morning to renew after I have been on the fence all post season. Go Saints!!!!!!!!!!!
