Too bad he wasn't voted off the island like Kyle Young. Was there any reason to believe he was a 'bad seed'?

This isn’t even an argument. Siena’s not standing in the way nor at fault, the NCAA is…. This is typical of any bureaucratic organization. They created this mess, they need to straighten it out. We’re merely following the rules. Don’t be surprised if you eventually see the ability to transfer at will / multiple times with no penalty. That would be ONE way to straighten out the mess. The other would be to say ZERO second transfers. In theory, there's nothing wrong with the system now (assuming we agree that the first transfer should never be penalized), if the rules are that a school should be honorable and truthful. The only tweak I can think of that would resolve this is for the NCAA to take responsibility to determine if the 2nd transfer DESERVES a waiver under current requirements - NOT to be put on the exiting school, which could encourage either lying or resentment on the part of that school. Agreed. Unfortunately though, I think the unlimited transfer move is more likely than not & just around the corner. As it stands today, it’s messy, to make this work the only entity we should be reporting to is the NCAA. Rogers chose to transfer yet again, I’m assuming the ramifications of his actions were explained by both Siena and WS. He should apply for a waiver & the NCAA should contact us directly for the details surrounding his departure. The NCAA should review expeditiously and rule. End of story. Also it would probably be beneficial to have a player sign-off on a release prior to leaving their existing institution to document the reason for transferring and to acknowledge that all policies have been reviewed & explained.

And Siena's statement said as much. But no reason to lie about the run-off thing. This is a problem the NCAA started with their policy. They should do the legwork to make the decision. (It's not like they don't get the revenue to hire somebody for that.)

As NYS’s prior Comptroller, Ned Reagan, used to like was seeing his name in the newspapers. It didn’t matter if it was good or bad press; just as long as it was in the press. Maybe this is good for Siena, as it’s putting the “name” out there. I think Reagan used to say something like there is no bad press (something like that). Anyone remember his phrase? It's not good press for Siena. Other coaches will most certainly use it to negatively recruit against the school when competing with for the same players. "Don't there...they will trap you you and won't let you go! Commit to us and we'll sign your waiver if you change your mind."

I prefer to go the honest route based on the way the rules and document is currently written. I understand that anything can happen, but do kids come to their SECOND school with the intention of leaving again? But agree that coaches could use that against us.

Along these lines, what players have the EXTRA 5th year - as of now? \ Just those who were on a roster the first year of the pandemic (19-20)?

The MAAC Board rumor about Rogers is after the season, he asked Carm how he was going to make him a star. They disagreed. So he left Siena.

It’s very discouraging that these talented kids leave and more often than not for a team that doesn’t satisfy the issues they left Siena for. Imagine if these players stayed and finished up at Siena. Siena would be a perennial winner. And so would those kids. I just think of all that wasted talent. I think a lot of these kids just don’t have good people guiding them. Maybe Rogers did, I don’t know, but losing him, hurt Siena. I hope he lands on his feet and gets what he wants, whatever that is.

Siena’s getting they’re name out there in case other young prospects never heard of them. Ok, so we weed out some of those recruits who are afraid and we only keep the confident ones who know they’re good and they won’t need to worry about Siena doing the same for them because they don’t plan in leaving in the first place. This will turn out to be a great thing for Siena and recruits staying all 4 years.

I find it funny a kid would say it that way. If I’m the coach I’d say I can’t make you into anything but I can provide you with suggestions on areas to improve your abilities. Then it’s up to YOU to make yourself better in those deficient areas holding you back from becoming a better player. Isn’t that what coaches are supposed to go; provide feedback and suggest how they can improve. I’m not aware of coaches who have a manic want to transfer players into all MAAC players w/o the player actually trying to improve. 🙂 Besides, what does that tell you about the player? He’s all about himself. Personal goals ahead of team goals? I’d prefer he asks how can I improve/better my game so as to make the team better and then makes all macc team because of that. But that’s just me.

The what would have happened if they stayed. I my head/version the outcome was always in Siena’s (and Siena fans) favor. 🙂

The MAAC Board rumor about Rogers is after the season, he asked Carm how he was going to make him a star. They disagreed. So he left Siena. More specifically, he reportedly requested to be put in a position to be MAAC POY by having Carm focus the offense on him. I can only imagine what response that elicited from Carm. Suffice it to say, I'm sure Colby was reminded that it's a team sport.
