My 2 cents: I've never heard of an AD that a fan base actually likes. Either they are out of the spotlight or take the blame for perceived faults within the athletic department. That said, I have no opinion on JD, he may well be worthy of the hatred he gets on this board. JP's argument of "grey areas" are laughable. Who knew giving cash to players was wrong? Especially awesome about it is the allegation that his coaching staff refused to pass out per diem money at times. Siena did the right thing. They identified a problem, self reported it (and yes, it was publicized at the time) and investigated it. While the timing sucks, the punishment clearly reflects the school/athletic department addressing the issues the right way. OK, I keep reading that the NCAA investigation was publicized. When was that? All I remember was a story about the student manager.Obviously other things were occurring. Seems to me the whole NCAA investigation was a surprise to many of the readers here.If I missed a story about Siena's self referral, which certainly is possible, I'd be curious to learn when that little tidbit happened. Otherwise, I continue to maintain the school had an obligation to notify the Siena nation.

I recall that there were investigations at the time of JP's firing. I assumed they were internal-only but that was an assumption on my part. It appears the outcome was forwarded to the NCAA as they should have been. I'm pretty sure they didn't want to make JC's life (and now Carm's) any harder with this stuff.

This is all collateral damage from extricating Siena from Patsos and his contract. Internal investigation was underway while he was here and carried over after he was gone. Anything uncovered had to be self-reported to the NCAA. If you don’t report it, and it comes to light, the consequences of a cover-up would have been more severe. Again water under the bridge, & let’s hope the administration learned from this. We were lucky to get off with a slap on the wrist, Patsos not so much, his coaching career is over!

I do not think they specifically said they reported MINOR NCAA violations. Why would you say that and then have a cloud hanging over your head for 2 years while the NCAA investigates and potentially scare away recruits when the type of violations wouldn’t amount to any severe penalties anyway? In hindsight they did exactly the right thing and I don’t think they owed fans any more info then they gave us.

School got lucky, we as fans got lucky, and even the NCAA got lucky. Siena self reported Pastos, he will never coach again and one less headache for NCAA. As One Indian said water under the bridge, let sleeping does lie.

Here are the first 3 paragraphs of the Associated Press article on Patsos being fired. Not sure why this is catching people by surprise:
Siena men's basketball coach Jimmy Patsos resigned Friday, weeks after the college opened what has become a wide-ranging investigation that unearthed allegations of problems ranging from abusive conduct to financial improprieties within the program.
The move came more than a month after the end of an 8-24 season that matched Siena's third worst since the school in Loudonville, N.Y., moved to the Division I level in 1976. Patsos, the former longtime Maryland assistant coach and Loyola Maryland head coach, still had the backing of athletic director John D'Argenio after the season and was expected to return until the college opened its probe when a manager who has a mental disorder came forward with allegations of verbal abuse.
Some of the problems found during the investigation — which is still ongoing, and has included multiple interview sessions with players and others around the program — might potentially rise to the level of NCAA violations.

The "financial improprieties" at the time of his firing was the Charleston trip meal money that was spent by the coaching staff at the bar, remember? The booster, and "ice cream money" came much later and thru Jamions discovery.

Wel and jimmy had a habit of “expensing” questionable expense and some may even been on another continent looking for recruits I. Vietnam. He likes to have coaching staff lunches at Prime often

UGH! The hiring of Jimmy Patsos... The Gift that keeps on Giving! What a truly sad period in so may ways in the history of Siena Saints Basketball. I wish I could erase it from my memory as easily as the players contributions were erased from the Siena records book. Sad. Very Sad.

I find it interesting that we self report and fire the coach for buying players lunch and ice cream (which we should have) and Iona crows about how great it is that they have one of the winningest coaches who was fired for unspeakable moral conduct. If I was an Iona alum, I would be ashamed of Iona's administration. I guess I'm old fashion and don't excuse bad behavior over success. Sad, isn't it!

Yes hoop Dad. How would you rank Iona's decision to hire Patino? Do you excuse him because he is an all time winning coach who just happens to be morally bankrupt?

One good thing.... patsos is now officially the worst coach in the history of Siena basketball and likely one of the worst in the entire country.

so my question is did each of those players take inadmissible benefits at some point or do all layers suffer equally? Also, it sucks that the booster wasn't even an alum

Also, it sucks that the booster wasn't even an alum I would guess that the statistical adjustment to the individual records would be the identifying factor in who took inadmissible benefits.
